I think with these events I need to take a photo of the timecard before I hand it in! Maybe my scrawl was not received so kindly by the kind scorers. I probably wrote the S on the instructions/scratch pad I was using and didn't get it on to the card. Its a bit of a **** fight with in the car with all this paper and maps and cards and roamers and compasses and stuff.
Damn. Could have beat Fro on one section. WOulda coulda shoulda.

You should try it inside something as small as an Escort !
As for writing the "S" down on your roadbook instead of on the card - we have all done that at least once ! In fact in a 600-odd km navigation event I directed years ago, Ross Runnalls forgot to write down the last info of the last section ... he & Portholes still won by a country mile, but it was the only points they dropped ! He was not amused ....
Thanks for hosting the track for my public humiliation

Apparently I did get that via in the bit the GPS says I didn't go to. Genius. Or so says the provisional results? [Which I've posted to http://users.tpg.com.au/goodship/Ric...v_Results.pdf]
I must look at the maps to see why so many WD'd the passage control in Section 3?

I had wondered that too .... it didn't seem particularly tricky at the time ? Possibly just brainfade (which tends to happen in these events ... ).
If people overshot the correct (first) TR in to the passage control & took the next one, they would have entered WD (despite there being no entry direction specified) because it was Shortest Mapped Route.

Maybe there wasn't an info at that point ? If so, you might have got away with one !
Poop ... looks like the checking of roadcards vs. control cards has made a few changes here & there .... dropped from 4th to 5th O/R Still, didn't lose our spot as 1st HRC2 which is what we were chasing.

Hmmm . . . not sure about your interpretation there Dave!
The instructions specified shortest mapped route (SMR) from Via 2 to Via 3. This means following the mapped roads ONLY. Any deviation from
mapped roads means non-compliance with the instructions. The supplied map, although produced in 2007, was missing a short track that cut across
from Robertson Break to Centre Break.
We could have placed an information board on the longer, correct route but this would have meant a penalty of 10 points for missing it. We preferred to place a Passage control at the intersection of Robertson Track and Centre Break so that the navigational error would result in only a 5 minute penalty.
We did not wish for crews to be lured into the Passage from the wrong direction and determined that using the unmapped track involved a deliberate and definite error of turning left off the mapped road and into the unmapped track. We did not think it would catch many crews out and are most surprised at how much chaos surrounded this via point.
Brian Shand, who was manning the passage control, reckons he had a fantastic night of fun watching the comedy or errors unfold before his eyes. At one stage, it looked like he was going to get 4 cars come to his intersection from 4 different directions, all at the same time!

Ah - OK ! I mis-remembered where the passage was .... I was thinking it was at Via 3.
Funnily enough, I don't even recall seeing the potential unmapped road straight ahead across Robertson Break on the night ... I just called it as "TR at TJ" & Kim did what he was told!
So was there an info at Via 4 (corner of Garner & Loghauler) ?
