Sprint Auto Parts Rally SA.

With the live video feed from the bitumen special stages on Friday and Saturday night it will be interesting to see the response to the broadcast.

Good luck to everyone else competing over the weekend.
Been a long time since we have competed in rain over hear so that will be interesting for us. I think the last time we did was the Eden Valley Rally in 2006 so it will be good to see the three stages from that event again tomorrow.

Andrew Gooley

p.s. Live feed and incar videos will be at SA Rally Website

Buddy's was impassable when we went out on Sunday.
Other stages were over a foot deep in water in places.

Annoying that they have decided not to run Forties at all this year

Plus they havnt released stage maps at all, so its almost like they are trying to discourage spectating.

Smee: just sent you an SMS.

Unfortunately the issues of people not paying to get into the spectating areas as well as spectators turning up in interesting places they shouldn't be gets worse each year (no matter what event). Maybe that has something to do with no releasing the stage maps to every Tom, Dick and Harry.

With more and more people just jumping fences and walking into stages where they feel like is the main reason for not giving maps out to everyone, plus with some competitors might take advantage of these maps as well.

Andrew, we had a **** load of rain here in WA yesterday so it might make it to you by late saturday.

Hope all goes well for everyone, i better scadadle and get ready for dutton rally this weekend

Not quite the same when you have a Bronze media pass and get told the same thing though

Plus they go and cancel the BIG spectating area and limit it to a freaking tarmac section.

EDIT: it appears that my media pass application wasnt put into the system correctly, yet i was sent the pass.
Ohwell, i have the information that i need now.

I really hope the powers that be at the top level of our sport took the time to check out what you guys achieved last weekend .

Instead of just checking the timesheet upgrades throughout the event, we could actually watch what was happening! I even found myself hanging around (instead of slipping off to watch the Rugby) to watch Declan (the last competitive car) as the chat feature with his mates/family made me an instant supporter!

I believe this is the type of thing that'll bring our sport to the people, so there has to be an allowance in the ARC budget to support you guys at future events!

Cheers Tanz.

Thanks Tanz.

One of the best things was that Declan's wife and child could watch the action live, from home, where they didn't risk hypothermia.

That was the first trial on the weekend, and we have discovered that we can do a lot more on a similar budget. We've got more walks around service park planned, interviews, and possibly even broadcasted footage between events. We might also have cameras in the forest, and play prerecorded interviews, in car footage, or ads in the 2 minute intervals.

We've already been investigating our shortcomings, and researching how to overcome them, and we have a much better broadcasting system planned for future events. If budget allows we'd like to start with Tasmania, but that looks unlikely.

Ryan,

I think I know where to get some scaffold to get the poor old camera man up a bit higher at Angaston too. That should help getting the footage from the other side of the tents in the middle of the oval. Give me a kick before next years event and I'll get it sorted out.

Great idea about the pre-recorded interviews and service park walks too, will add a bit extra to the coverage. The think I used to like about the Tanunda Ceremonial Start was that they interviewed the drivers and you could get your "message" across to the public. If we can't do it at Angaston then it would be good to do it on the live broadcast.

Top stuff mate, keep up the good work.

Bronze ?!?!? Dont you mean level 2? They dont go by colours in ARC rounds.

Spectators were left out for Duty of care reasons due to NEC/Toyota/sponsors pulling the big $$$ from the event this year.

Forties was run this year, and it was a combined Ridgetops and Forties renamed Mt Crawford., and it seemed every man and his dog deemed it safe to be 2 mtrs from a rally car doing 160 kmh...

Don't you mean Toyota? Not sure that NEC did much for the rally itself, just the championship.

I would have thought then that it would have been safer to setup a "normal" spectator point with a few officials there (like any SARC round) and let the general public know so that it attracts the majority of the people that don't know where to stand so that they are close by an official that can let them know rather than don't tell anyone where any spectator points are and have them standing in dangerous spots on every corner of every stage.

There's no reason that the spectator point at Mt Crawford has to cost much money to setup. I think we have gone from the best spectating point in the country to the worst. We went to Melbourne last year to have a look and thought their forest spectating points were pretty basic compared to Rally SA but little did we know that they would have been better than what was available this year at Rally SA.

I can't remember seeing anyone that I thought was in a dangerous spot by the time we came through. Maybe they had all been hit and taken to hospital by the time we got there? Are we that much of a nanny state that people can't stand where they choose? We can never have every meter of every SS covered with marshals so that people don't stand too close so we just have to accept that people will stand in strange spots and get over it. Having no spectator points is not the answer, it makes the problem worse in my opinion.

Can anyone come up with the last time a spectator was hit by a rally car in Australia?

Do we need spectators? I darn well do. No spectator points = no spectators = no team sponsors = no budget for us to run the expensive events.
