Co driving with Graham
Firstly, I love rallying, whether it is as a driver or as a co driver. although I must admit if given the choice I would drive.
Last weekend I had the thrill of riding shot gun with Graham Thompson in his mighty black VR4. Thankyou Graham for the adrenaline rush.
The Bathurst event had been a long time coming and I, like I am sure, everyone else have been well and truely rally starved, and busting to get out and "do it in the dirt".
Graham and I have set a gaol this year to compete in the Gold Cup Series, so our pre event plan was to "get to the finish". Although this is always the plan, maybe a little wisdom or just plan old age has helped us to set the pace for the Bathurst event. I have been in this event for th past few years and I know that if the event is tackled at a high pace than you will be luckyto ensure your cars survival.
The other highlight as far as I am concerned is the oppertunity for me to play host to Graham for a change, as I live at Orange.
During the event, I found a degree of inconsistency with the cautions, especially on the humps. For example some humps were lables as !!! caution, then you would come across a hump labled "hump" and it would be more exteme than the !!!. So as a co driver I called all the humps with the same degree of caution, (just could not take the risk of being caught out).
The car had a few niggling problems, enough to worry you but not enough to stop us. However I am sure at our next event, we will be hot on the pace and I for one am looking forward in great excitement and expectation. There is nothing like rallying!
