Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh Bega - well two thumbs up for getting there with Lizzy driving...... I only had to shout once going down the Brown Mountain - stating that I didn't want to die a fast Datsun virgin!! Although for the passenger in the white Transit van in front of us, it may well have been Brown Pants mountain

The Clio Sport is a ridiculous car, how anyone, let alone Lizzy manages to keep their license is beyond me... anyhoo..
Got to the RSL to discover that both 2WD's ahead of us had withdrawn (I later found out after having a chat with Jeff David at the presso that their car hadn't arrived from NZ in time, which is probably why Snooks was a DNS too). So we were 1st 2WD - a position we wanted to maintain
I was a little aprehensive about a 45km first stage, but at the finish, I wanted to line up and do it all again - seemed to be all over in a flash and I was really disappointed to see those red boards. In fact I couldn't speak at the end of the stage

I can only imagine what the car sounded like from the outside while Carl was wringing it's neck - bloody awesome*!! On a couple of the long calls I shut my eyes and just enjoyed the ride

Set a pretty good time - were probably about a minute ahead of the other 2WD's which was cool.
SS2&3 were again nice and flowing. We were going really well despite the brake pedal sometimes going to the floor (glad I didn't notice that) and find out that we're 6th o/r after the first 3 stages. Sweet!
On SS4, the repeat of the first stage, it's wetter and greasier than before thanks to a flash storm that came through. We knew our time would be slower than SS1 as we struggled for grip in a few spots. We get a flat with about 12/13kms to go - we decide to change it. One car came past us, so we knew we had done alright with the tyre change. Thought we'd lost 2-3 minutes.
We had about 2:30 lead on the next 2WD, and wondered if this would be enough to keep us in front. I go look at the scoreboard to discover that we're about a minute behind. Buggar!!
So we have 13kms to make up 1 minute...... red mist descends

great stage - simply couldn't have done it any faster..... 10:14... we got 44 seconds back, which just wasn't enough and we end up 2nd 2WD (I think) by about 15 seconds. Drats!!
I'm still grinning though, so a fantastic weekend
Some things that I learned at Bega:
* Carl is awesome - I now fully understand the term 'steering with the rear'
* Flat tyres suck wang
* Clod has no luck
* Lizzy is a bed hog
Thanks to all those that made the event possible - I can't remember a more relaxed and laid back Bega.
Thanks to our service crew - Lobby and Michelle, Travis and Simone, Bob Bridge and of course Michelle and the boys!
Thanks to Carl for the seat and opening my eyes to what a fast Datsun can do in the forest - blown away buddy - had an absolute blast!
Thanks to my Mum for taking care of Thomas for the weekend so I could compete, and to Nathan for his support and front tyres
*Please tell me someone had a video camera and got aome footage of car 20?!
