At uni we were taught that a multiplier of 2.5X is a realistic factor to use. Of course, that was 20 years ago, and I am sure NSW events would probably have accepted a higher mulitplier!

would not suprise me.
oul little 9 person team put $6.5g into the area over the week ( thats not rally budget... just spend in local area).
citroen team had 210 personel im told..... ford had over 140.
Atko told me that in 2004 ( his first Subaru year) their team took 85 personal to an event to do 2 cars, and their average was 250'000 euro ( AU $510'000) per event for accomadation and food..... then plus all the other bits and pieces.
plus ray day was there.... food , booze, police bail fees.
imagine how much fuel was consumed over the week....
try telling the local business comunity the rally should go else where....
good for WRC and rally all round.
only 726 days to go...

So why do we so desperately want him to stay? If he left rallying, then there'd be another seat available for a driver who is genuinely and visibly passionate about the sport.

Statisically, he's the best. But he's far from it.
I won't miss him. Put Atko in the spot.

You've seen him and you don't think he's the shiz? Loeb is the king. None better at driving the cars in the championship now. Colin couldn't do it. Marcus was slower. We'll see if Solberg can hold a candle to him when he runs the C4 in the last couple of rounds.
I'm now convinced Loeb is the best ever, and now I've seen the best. There were more expressive, raw drivers (McRae, Latvala), others with larger nuts (Gronholm, Tommi), others similar but not as good (Carlos, though it pains me to say it). But there were never any better at putting the car in the right place on the road every time. Maybe he's been bored the last few rounds. 54 wins vs what, 27? for the next best?

Have to agree with that. I don't think he is anyone's FAVOURITE driver. But he has to be the best. He has won on snow in Norway and Sweden, in Finland, on slow stuff, on fast stuff. Almost never makes mistakes and is still in a class of his own on tarmac.
Put simply, name another driver that could beat him over a world championship?? Panizzi on tarmac maybe, Kankunnen on gravel but none have been as well rounded.
That said, Latvala's my favourite

Loeb is only the best statistically as far as i'm concerned. Look at todays WRC cars, they are much, much easier to "put in the right place" than the group B or even group A cars. In my mind Kankkunen was the best, he managed to be a competative top line driver over about 25 years & three different types (group B, group A & WRC) of top line rally car and for that you can look past him. Henri Toivonen had pure talent & unfortunately we never got to see him live up to his full potential otherwise we may not have enev needed to have this debate.

Yep. Have a look at his competition... Tommi had to race against Carlos, Mcrae, Juha, Auriol etc. Loeb has to race against? Latvala? Mikko?
Just cause JS has won 6 ACT titles does it mean that he was the best ACT has seen?
