I was a road closure at very near the end of the stage, and heard a multitude of stories from various different sources, including some of the above and a couple of others both more and less extreme. The police I spoke to said that they didn't think that they had much chance of catching the culprits as it's very easy to disappear into the bush.

In civi speak that is translated to "can't be f^cked looking for them"...

Correct, from closure until re-opening, it is no longer a road as prescribed by the act

Are you serious?... you doubt that these little scrotes can just disappear in to the scrub without trace? Man, the cops would just be wasting their bloody time trying to find them! They and/or their organisers a) probably know the area better than anyone and b) don't need roads/tracks to run along. Who'd be a cop down there right now? Not me, thanks!

Scrutineering gem: Cullens were pinged for name lettering which was 2 mm less than spec. I wonder how many angels can stand on the head of a pin?

Cullens weren't the only ones there have been some absolute gems.

...but Connelly was on TV saying the secret of the event is that the competitors are customers.

Seriously, why are so many scrutineers complete wankers? I know there are some reasonable ones out there, but so many of our higher level events seem to attract half-wits intent on enforcing some bull5hit rule.

If Connelly was serious about his words, he would get rid of these type of scrutineers/officials. But 'back-marking' competitors have been treated poorly for years. That's why so few of us are prepared to enter the 'higher-level' events.

Disrepect for a huge force of the Boys and Girls in Blue who have been doing a wonderful job in curtailing the ferals is pathetic. Scooter also has it 100% right - and the cops would very much like to get their hands on the thugs.

Nothing but a big congratulations to them for their efforts and time.

And that wasn't the best of the Cullen gems from scrutineering either.

I'll once again err on the side of caution and politely shut up for now

I'm havign quite an interesting time being on the other side of the fence and the media. Seeign and hearing about a whole new bunch of stuff that probably bores most to tears, but to me has been facinating.

As a sort-of outsider, I thought the OneHD telecast tonight based around the 'official' WRC media package handled the incident pretty well. They didn't avoid the incident or sensationalise it, but rather mentioned it without overstating what actually happened. In the context of the event, the stage was simply binned and life moved on.

In the real world, I hope that if rocks were indeed thrown at moving vehicles and the perpetrators were detected, that they were exposed to the full extent of the law. God knows that the usual suspects (ACA, today tonight) are more than happy to castigate folk for doing this stuff on a 'normal' open public road.

But regarding the 'official' telecast... I had to question the legitimacy of it apparently being an 'Australian' rally,.... how could it possibly be an Aussie rally, I didn't see a single Datsun! (but good on ch10 for at least giving Bates and Croker a sliver of air time)

Pigs Arts we were there and the local coppers were great and made every effort to sort these tossers out, we were very impressed with their response from the road closure that we were at on stage 6.

Can we hit these pricks with a cricket bat or a 1 wood?

"News Flash/ Media Release......... after reports of rocks on some of the stages during yesterdays Repco Rally Australia, rally supporters from far and wide, have rounded up the culprits, and have organised car 0 to sweep the roads this morning before vehicles hit the stages, with the vandals attached to the rear of car 0 , as dreadlocks are pristine road sweepers.

Thanks for that link!... I never bother with FaceAche but following that link found me and old (young) friend, Aurelia Connelly

I didn't find much from the anti-RRA people though, unless I add them as friends... and that's not going to happen! I have one "friend" and that's my wife, just so I can see the pics of the kids she puts on the confounded god-awful brain-dead social network crap! (yeah, I think facebook is a load of bollocks)

EDIT: Uncle... if you can see his posts, would you be so kind as to copy 'n' paste 'em for us who can't (won't) see them please?

thefatchuckster has some part of a clue
I'd say they're using their ning-based site for event planning - access to it is invitation only. If anything they'd be using the open sites for misinformation/misdirection.

query: who to contact about the IT behind the WRC web site? despite their planned outage/upgrade\last night, performance is very, very slow for a world-class event. It appears to be running on a shared server (domaintools said 30 other domains on the same box) with ecohost.com.au who are re-selling space on overthewire's servers in Brisbane.

But expecting the bastards to try something tricky and open it up again, i hung around for a few hours just in case. So i sat and read a book in between cars passing who where mostly friendly and supportive, even some cops stopped for a chat and where cool with my reasons for being there.
However i didn't know about the rock throwing until told by a quiet pissed off local bloke who spun his car around into the gravel in font of mine, got out and started to tell me how much violence he wanted to inflict on me. He was saying that all those against the rally should be locked up for the fact some of them threw rocks, to which i retorted that in that case all motor sports fans should be locked up for being drink driving violent thugs.
The fact i'm six foot four and kind of solid is probably the only reason why i didn't get a punch in the face for this, instead he screamed a bit more gibberish, jumped in his ute and did a big spin out as he took off, covering my car and me in dust and gravel.
Anyway after several more cars came past with angry fans screaming abuse and threats, i decided i had better break camp for my own safety.
Be careful everyone, there are a lot of dickheads out there at the moment just looking for an excuse to be violent and they will use this as an excuse to target us.
Good luck to you all for the remainder of the weekend.
