Here's some more garbage from Facebook.....

Name:
No World Car Rally In The Tweed Valley
Category:
Common Interest - Beliefs & Causes
Description:
In September 2009 the Repco World Rally will be staged through the National Parks and along quiet country roads of the Tweed and Kyogle regions in Northern NSW.
Over 200 cars will race through our fragile forests, putting large amounts of wildlife at risk of death from car strike and even stress from the noise. The race even goes through koala habitat during the breeding season.
The race will also cause havoc for our communities as our public roads are taken away from us, many villages isolated, workers unable to get to work, kids unable to get to and from school, farmers unable to get produce to market and a thousand other inconveniences. Kingscliff, a quiet seaside village, will have its beach front park lands turned into pit lane.
There has been no decent consultation with the communities, some suspicious deals done to put a local council general manager on the rally board, lies fed to the media about arrangements between local environmental groups and the rally organisers, deceptive stalling tactics about lodging a DA and now the State Government stepping in and taking control away from local government and rubber stamping this event to take place, for the next ten years (with another ten year option tacked on).
The NSW State Government has already invested millions of dollars into this event via Events NSW. It will cost them many millions more, most of it the hidden costs of police, emergency personel, hospitals, loss of business (taxes). However this race was rejected by the WA Government due to the fact it was not a good investment. And they didn't have the bright lights and theme parks of the Gold Coast just across the border to lure away the tourist dollar.
This group is for people who feel this event is wrong and that it should be canceled or relocated to a more appropriate location......

Thanks Uncle. That one seems pretty harmless... I'd love to see the juicy stuff though. Ah, might get my wife to add him as a friend!!! (geez I'm a clever bastard sometimes)
chuckster... it's f&#&@^& appalling! Fancy thinking they could run something like this on shared hosting?!! We (my employer) run (among hundreds of others) the Electoral Commission website and for a State election (ie: not as many hits as a WRC site), and it's on THREE dedicated kick-arse web servers that load share... back end involves a dozen machines! To expect a shared hosting site to cope with the potential load of this event is just a complete lack of understanding, research or familiarity with the event. Who's to blame? RRA organisers (wouldn't understand IT if it bit them on the arse) and the hosting company (who probably wouldn't understand WRC if it ran through their office) for neither doing their homework!
...or have the No Rally Group staged a DDOS attack of the servers? Nah, they're not THAT smart... are they?
EDIT: bless my dear wife... she has just asked to be Mr Heggie's friend

The lack of self awareness is staggering.

Daryl Beattie went for a fang with Matthew Wilson and was impressed which is not easy to given given his background. Those roads look really FAT. Lucky bastards.

Reports from Glenn (Brinkman) and Harvey are that the roads are P-H-A-T phat! Think Bega Shire Roads (I wish I could...) but better... very fast!
The boys suffered a broken gearbox yesterday, but we managed to cadge one ($$$$$$$ ouch) off our service park neighbours whose car was not re-entering today, and the boys are back out there today under super-rally rules. They are having a blast... Hoping to climb back up the leaderboard and make some more headlines (for all the right reasons).
Take the focus off the protesters... giving them coverage is just what they want, to take the glory away from the event! Let's talk about the sport!
How's this for coverage - front page souvenir cover of the Tweed Daily News during the week!

More once I'm back in Canberra, but a few quick points...
To the organisrs, of all the WRC events i have been to this is the worst spectating I have ever had the misfortune of paying for. Poor viewing, stuff all ticket checking (people who had not paid the extra $120 for "Grandstand Tickets" sitting in the stands watching the super special stage, just to name one problem at the SSS), hundreds of people who appeared to be 'friends' of the farmers allowed to stand wherever they liked but the paying spectators forced into pens like cattle*, very limited number of spectator points (on Friday if you didn't have a ticket for Castrol Edge East then you could only see one stage early in the morning and then the SSS at 6.30pm - nothing in between).
Very disappointing.
* Surely CAMS (the owners of the company running the RRA???) are exposed if a friend of a farmer was injured just like they are with spectators!?? If CAMS view the 'risk' associated with these people as 'acceptable' then everyone should be able to stand along the route where they like...

Did anyone notice the poetic beauty in the WRC TV special that was on OneHD today?
There was a brief clip of one of the WRC cars blasting past a farmer's truck which was strategically stationed in a paddock adjacent to a special stage. The truck had a HUGE sign on it which said "Save the Rally - Shoot the ferals!" Absolutely beautiful. I'm sure the WRC TV editors were smirking and smiling as they added it to their footage for the day.
As you would expect, the vast majority of locals up there are very, very much in favour of the rally. I loved Bede's post yesterday where a local said "I'm in favour of the rally, but of course, I have a job."
The stages look to be superb. Dare I say it - maybe even better than when the event was in Perth. (Notwithstanding there will never be a suitable replacement for the Bunnings jumps and water splash.) My only real complaint would be the huge number of very short stages. Great roads in those stages, but 4 and 5km stages - it may as well be a rallysprint!
Me and my 3 year old son are loving the TV coverage.
