Repco Rally Aus Chatter
Well it looks like the first stages of the day are underway which is definately a great thing!
Anyone know what happened to Raymo? Appears to have dropped 1min + on the first stage today which is really dissapointing!

1058hrs SS6 - first three cars through, stage is stopped, reports of people in middle of stage waving yellow flags, drivers slwing down unsure if are officials or protesters.
1048hrs SS6 - currently stopped, protesters throwing rocks onto stage, 0 Car stopped stage... more to come.

You really have to question the mentality of these protesters. Trying to kill someone really just is not on.
I'll edit this to add, if protesters are caught or in the area where rocks have been thrown onto stages, then they should be charged similarly to someone throwing a rock etc off a road bridge into traffic.

These protestors are either incredibly irresponsible (for putting the live of competitors, officials and spectators at risk) or incredibly stupid (for failing to understand the implications of their actions). These actions do nothing to win over the moderates, and, I would guess, only gain approval from others in the extremist minority of which they are a part.
So, we have a bunch of extremists willing to do anything in order to impose their own views of how the world should be and what people should think, with a complete disregard for the lives of those who don't conform to those extremist views - sound like any other groups we hear of in the media???!

yep.... take away a few right now... now.... and charge with attempted manslaughter ( throwing rocks at cars is covered buy that i believe )..... see how serious the rest of the protesters are.
the lead cars will have in car footage...... show to police.... take action.

Relevant section from the Crimes Act (NSW) 1900:
Quote:
49A Throwing rocks and other objects at vehicles and vessels
(1) A person is guilty of an offence if:(a) the person intentionally throws an object at, or drops an object on or towards, a vehicle or vessel that is on any road, railway or navigable waters, and (b) there is a person in the vehicle or vessel, and (c) the conduct risks the safety of any person. Maximum penalty: Imprisonment for 5 years. (2) This section extends to a vehicle or vessel that is stationary at the time that the object is thrown or dropped. (3) In the prosecution of an offence under this section, it is not necessary to prove:(a) that the accused was aware that his or her conduct risked the safety of any person, or (b) that the object made contact with the vehicle or vessel. (4) In this section:
"road" means a road or road related area within the meaning of the Road Transport (General) Act.
"throw" includes propel.
"vehicle" includes: (a) a motor vehicle, and (b) a train or tram, and (c) a bicycle, and (d) a drawn by an animal or an animal ridden by a person.
|
However, the definition of Road or Road Related Area may mean this provision of the Crimes Act cannot be used.

Were they actually throwing them at cars, or on the stage before the cars were present? I'm not interested in taking sides, but it seems like an assumption that everyone has made.
Poor form for the organisers not to stage a hemp convention on the mid north coast at the same time

World Rally Championship - News - SS6 cancelled
4/9/09
SS6 cancelled
Ford driver Jari-Matti Latvala takes a 1.2 second lead into SS7 of Rally Australia after SS6, the first pass though the 11.33km CTEK East, was cancelled.
The stage was stopped after environmental protestors threw rocks onto the stage.
The protestors had earlier failed in legal attempts to get the rally cancelled, after an independent ecological report concluded it was unlikely to have any significant impact on the flora and fauna in the area.
