There was a No-wheelspin requirement in 2001 - Section 18 of the Furthers and it was called "Start Line Requirements" ..............
There is no such beast in the 2003 and 2005 Further's - I don't have the 2007Further's here at home (I retired that year )......
Nathan, it may have also been used by other Vic events, but don't quote me on it!
Cheers
Jodi

In any case, it only proves the point that I was trying to make - 09 had a condition that slowed the stage times down marginally, and yet the fast guys still went faster.
At least tell me that one of the more recent Alpines had a no wheelspin requirement? I definitely remember encountering it before last weekend.
|
I dont remember any such requirement in 2007, or at least no one told me and I received no penalties for smoking it off the line.
Overall I thought the idea worked well this year and if it enhances our standing with the forestry then I dont have a problem with that.

If I had one beef with the roads it was the number of shorter stages on Sat morning, often joined by a tiny transport <500m. I'm sure occasionally this as about not competing on a short joining section, but I would have liked some longer stages rather than the number of short sprints. If you rally on the coast you're gong to get sandy roads. It's all part of the game.

I thought so too ..... there was much hilarity in the car after that one !
It was one of only 2 loses we had for the whole weekend - and of course there had to be witnesses

Is that video, or a still shot?
I admire Ken enormously; I hope I still have his motivation in another 20 years. And - god bless him - he's still using "doggie guards"* on the front of his car!
I assume he also has a black curtain in the cabin, between driver and navigator (don't laugh til you've tried it!).
* a late-60s expression, coined to avoid offending those who would not have appreciated the original expression: "dog-killer guards" (when fitted horizontally).

2 short stages on Saturday morning so we could empty the Public start in Lakes, need to keep them under 6 km or dust can be a big issue at 1 minute intervals. The stages after Nowa Nowa to Orbost were all longer and more challenging, weren't they Mr Stewart! and others, but okay with 2 minute gaps.

Alpine Rally - Competitors - 5mins of your time please?
The Alpine Rally Committee is seeking to gauge an idea of the ECONOMIC impact of
the event on the East Gippsland Area and as such we have put together a quick
survey.
This survey is for COMPETITORS only (either, driver or co-driver), similar
survey's will be coming soon for officials, spectators etc who attended the
event.
It should only take 5mins of your time and it is anonymous!
Because we are using a free survey service, it is limited to 100 respondents -
so first in best dressed.
Survey link is here - Competitor - Economic Survey
Thanks
