Another Great Alpine Rally. Even the no wheel spin rule seemed to work ok. Minimal road damage at the start controls.
Congratulations to the winners and those that managed to finish. It was a difficult event with heaps of dust and loose surfaces. Some very fast sections mixed in with tight and technical stages.
For me it was mixed emotions, as this was to be my last event, I was hoping for a reasonable result. Not to be however with several problems hampering the Fiat.
Thanks to the service crew for changing the gearbox in such quick time and to Bill Dun for offering me the drive. Bill is an enthusiast who loves the sport and it is people like him that make this sport special.
My if only list includes.
1.Faulty Rev Limiter on the Pro-log severely limiting performance (Removed and chucked in the bin, OK after that
2.Engine would only drop back to 4000rpm making it difficult to change down gears.
3.Broken 3rd gear, due to above I think
4.No brakes on a very fast stage after damaging a wheel on a rock
5. 14mm to-out on the tarmac, made for some interesting handling
6. 60 minutes in penalties due to OLT Rule
7.No intercom on the tarmac and on one other stage. Jigger did a great job with hand signals.
8. Two spins on the night stages one to the Left and one to the Right, just to keep things in balance
My biggest complaint was everyone at the pointy end were DRIVING TOO FAST.
Cheers
