Ah, the old Yokohama Radial 400…. Remember it well (well, at least bits of it). IIRC it was 1979 and the presentation was at Ryde somewhere. I was running zero and I think Howard Croswell was the COC (or Director as it was called then).
It may have been that year or a year later the route went down Wills Fire Road (which I think was off the Sheep Track) over a creek crossing and we stuck our zero car in the creek as it was deep and rocky (Bill P would have loved it). A certain gemini was first on the road and we flagged it down - before all these fancy comms of course - we jumped in the back of the gemini and the charming fellow in the drivers seat took us back to the start control. As they were 10 minutes in front of car 2 and control was only a couple of k's up the road (and of course it was at night because it was a real rally) we got back to control unscathed and canned the stage just as car 2 was pulling in. It was a good ride back then too, Belly, even if it was a bit squeazy
We never used Wills Fire Road again...
So many stories. What about the time....

Couple of things here ;
That jump was never a good idea... from the track planners, a good jump is about 1/3 that height... from the Celica Driver... it was always going to end in tears... from the other drivers that lost 20 or 30 seconds going to fast into the puddle trying to make 1/10th of a second... that said, I would have been pretty peved if my 1600 couldn't have gone through there pretty fast... but the approach angle was the killer, and most drivers enjoy a little jump, not a 2 meter high one, a 60cm one was enough to kill Bob's WRCorona and Hatfields CRX at our club grounds...
From the disappointing starters numbers... when there were 44 entries to the State Khanacross at the same site, a few things need to be looked at... most of the 44 khanacross cars could easily step up to rallysprints, except they don't have rollcages, and especially they aren't registered... think about it, if you only do one or two rallysprints a year, the cost of stepping up from kahancrosses is $500 - $1000 per event more... to require that on closed land was not a good idea... (can't find supp-regs to be sure, but I remember thinking I would enter but couldn't for these two reasons)... It seems that almost all the roads were the same as the State Khana, so the only difference was joining a couple of tests together, and a huge cost increase... I understand not all of these requirements are completely within the control of the club... but the club can always remove the requirements from their application and try to get them past CAMS, (or go ASAA)...
Thirdly on the track sale - what a shame to see this land go from club hands to a private organisation... fingers crossed that it is a good thing for competitiors, and the new owner can finance the improvements he stated, but at what cost to competitiors??? How much will he charge a club to run a khanacross there??? a motorkhana??? look at how much ARDC screws clubs to use EC... Not criticising MGCC, I am sure their comittee thought long and hard about this and have their own reasons, but every cloud has a lead lining...
Fourthly - The next State Khanacross is the same day as the once in a year NSSCC Riverside Oaks Khanacross... sure most of the state competitors will be from Newcastle area anyway, but it still isn't the best planning...
I had a good day at Rockwood last year... not being negative, but hopefully constructive...
Cheers,
Daewoo

Its been the plan for as long as I can remember to try and build a circuit on these grounds (20 plus years way back when it was NMRC and the hill climb was being built, even before the MG Newcastle acquired the land). All the committee with the exception of Bill are tar racers or prefer tar.
Bill has put the paperwork through to run these grounds as a level 1 rallysprint track, but for personal reasons has stepped down from organising an event which is now planned for the 13th June. Entry at this stage to be @$135 for probably the same course as the state event.
I did ask if it was possible to have a track around the jump when it was first proposed (giving people the option of a slightly longer but flat track) but wasnt concerned for the $300 Khana car, The "jump" has since been graded down, not sure of the height but.
there is also a mentality up here if you want to run tar join MG if you want to run dirt join WAC, which doesnt help

From what I've heard the Developer (IRH) is involved in Motorsport already and has honorable and the best of intentions for MGCCN and any other entity that will utilise the facility.
Also contractual obligations are being formalised/finalised in a professional manner by both IRH & MGCCN.
The venture will be reliant on the initial Marketing.
