SDMA Hillclimb last Sunday - 14/3/10

Hi All,

Well, after partially destroying my track car at RdF and then rebuilding it with lots of people's help/advice/assistance (thanks JW, Brady, Ty, Jason, Matt, Steve and Kurt) the car was ready for last Sunday's hillclimb - in fact more than ready, it was vastly improved.

Had a great day, having to totally relearn how to drive the car as it now has a 4.4 LSD (instead of 3.9 open), it has negative camber up front instead of positive and relatively fresh Dunlop DZ0xGs (3 front, 2 back) instead of tired R888s. Car felt fantastic, and the only thing holding it back now is the driver needs to get braver. Bit of a revelation to be able to pull 3rd gear through the dipper and hold it all the way to the finish line...

Managed to lower my PB from 51.38 to 50.76 - very happy with that and I can just spend this year driving the car instead of constantly tweaking it.

Seemed to be a good day for lowering PBs and breaking class records - the tussle between Michele Guyer and Malcolm Oastler being very entertaining. There was a great turn out, lots of interesting cars - and some interesting weather. But inspite of that relatively incident free and we got to do 6 runs.

I'm a very happy camper right now. Not bad for a car that a bit over 3 months ago looked like this:

Noticed a lot of cameras out there - anybody get any photos of the ratty first gen RX7 with dorifto spec black bonnet? Looks like this now:

Cheers,
Todd

Hey, that last MX5. Is that one of the Rewells (Wade/Al).

Where's the Datto, have they finally gone to the dark side. If so, I like it.

Nice pics Tyrie, any more? Maybe of the blue Corolla?

Todd, your new beast was impressive on the weekend, well done.

I love Malcolm's "Ferrabusa" what an amazing machine.

I had an ok day, first run in 2 years on really really old hard rubber, so no pb, but I think my driving was better, so sorta mixed thoughts for the day. Should be able to make the next one anyway for a bit of fun.

Weather was pretty diabolical thrugh the morning. There were a couple of character building/sphincter clenching moments for a few drivers who found the wrong side of 'the edge'.

Go Kart guy seemed to be the unluckiest bloke on the face of the planet for the morning. Killed a couple of batteries, ignition module failed, ran out of fuel, clutch started dieing and to cap it off, had a flat tyre on the trailer...

Good photos Tyrie - shame none of mine. One of the Evo all crossed up is great and shows how hard he was pushing.

Cheers Mick - it's a bloody fun beast now. Your times aren't bad for being rusty and tyres well past their prime. Have to see if we can do something about that.

You should have seen his last run where he took off in the wrong gear and then thought, "oh well, the run's ruined, lets have some fun"

Great stuff Tyrie. Saw your sweet Datto there but didn't see you at the car in the limited time I was there. Was going to have a chat to you about wheels and tyres.

Will await the photos - don't suppose you got one of the rather sideways end to run 2.

No idea of where I placed, had to leave at lunchtime due to prior engagement - but glad I snuck 3 runs in. Best of 50.78 - only .02 off PB but reeling off more runs at that level now so only a matter of time before I put it all together to go lower.

I love the way the white wall tyres on the front of the Coronry give is so much front grip the back breaks away.
