Targa Tasmania 2010.
How's this for a lucky escape this morning. Reports are the driver and navigator were taken to hospital as a precaution only. That's a rather large pole to snap in two. Glad they're ok.
Looks like the Mazda RX8 has some more speed this year. Sitting in 2nd after SS8. Top stuff to the Glenney/Webb crew.

We are out as well
Went off at over 200 on a L8
I think there might have been an issue with the rear brakes locking up with the ABS at 200 it all turns bad real quick.
Julia and I are OK. the car is too bad to be bothered to fix to continue.
Will do some spectating tomorrow.
The Lambo of Whites is sooo much faster than the rest it's not funny.
It went past where we crashed and changed it's line by a metre at 200 on the corner we went off on and still had more grip left.
We would have been on the limit if we had of gone Ok on the same corner.
If a rally guy ever got hold of one of those cars, they would hose the field!!
Good luck to all for tomorrow.
Tony

Sad to hear. But glad you are okay.
What did Glennie look like? BAsed on what I have seen and heard about the conditions (from JW who is servicing) it looks like glenney was an inspired drive in a 2wd car.

I haven't seen him in the stages as yet, but had a good talk with him.
He is really happy with the car and the mods done.
He reckons it is at least as fast as an evo 9 and the 2wd doesn't really put him at much dissadvantage on tarmac, unless it's really wet.
He is the man to watch for sure. He will drive the wheels off. The car handles really well too.
Nothing has the grip and power of the Lambo, but in this type of rally bravery and skill count for a lot, so he will be a good chance.

And even on Day One a couple of stages in, obviously dissappointed, you still took time to explain to the assembled Bogans your view of it all....
One of the nice guys - hope to see you and Julia back next year.
YT drives and Navs in the local dirt stuff too, former karting champ. Put Julia in that car, then you would see what it is capable of...
Watching wont be quite the experience with TS somewhere in the Crowd

We're still going. Better today in the dry. Michael only using the gears that worked, waiting for our new gearbox to arrive.

It was the Lambo's day, (week?) but they have been working on this for about 4 or 5 years trying to get it right. Switching to the paddle shift surely gave them another edge by a few meters per k of stage miles.
Sorry Tony and Julia went out. Glenney was inspired, what a drive up to that point. A question is, was the RX8 already sliding at the point of impact with the skyline? From the photos there was a fair bit of a trail of rainbow colours going down the road from the fluid that was dropped.
Treacherous week, just surviving and getting to the end of each day seemed to be a mission.

Possibly not the correct question seeing as though the RX8 appears to have gone in backwards.
I suppose the question should be did trying to avoid the Skyline cause Steve to lose control or was it the oil?
He had a brilliant drive up to that point, it's such a shame that his week had to end like that. I was looking forward to seeing a hard scrap between them and the Whites over the remaining days.
Now, wouldn't it be great to see the RX8 in the Allcomers category at Rally SA!! How do we make it happen?

After reading Tony's (Sullens) brief on what happened to him with his ABS playing up I can say we had the same thing happen to us in our GC8. This wasa few years ago, when we ran them in the US, but same thing, came berreling into a corner, balanced, braked, all good, then suddenly had a huge lockup, and lfat spotted a tyre. The problem is we had ABS on the car and it usually kicked in (not often) if we leaned a bit hard, but I wasnt even leanin that hard on the brakes and then whammo, big lockup.
Very weird, considering we still had ABS in the car. We reset the ECU, and all ok again.
