The media day was held on Friday to give the media a chance to come and see what we had planned for the weekend. There were about 15 cars there from memory, and it looked to be a top day.
We did a quick lap of the (just over) 2k loop. A couple of nice right handers, a jump and a couple of long straights were what we had to look forward too. This was going to be fun!
Matt Dyne was keen to get cracking in the Camira, so we suited up and took the first hot lap. I don't know if it was being in the passanger seat, being in a quicker car or being in the hands of a much better steerer than myself (probably all of the above), but I was almost scared the first time through. I know in the lancer, I would definately have backed off for the jump. Not Matt. He was up it and kept at it. Once we landed, I think my words were something to the effect of "Proflex kicks arse!!!!". Experiencing the difference, 1st hand, between proflex and gabriel suspension is something I needed.
After a couple more runs, the rain started sprinkling down. Not enough to spoil the fun we were having though. Jumped in for a ride with Wagi in the escort (That's a nice little package), and then went for a spin with Mark Sessions.
I now know why Mark is doing so well now. I don't think he knows what the term "back off" means. His suspension was bottoming out due to a schock that was ka-put, but he was still either flat stick, or hard on the brakes. Top effort Mark!
Didn't get a chance to jump in with Russell in the supertaxi. The rain that started falling after we had finished lunch was unreal. 10 seconds out from under the covers, and there was no point worrying about keeping dry anymore.
Most people left at that stage. Mark, Fro (you guys rock, thanks for holding the day for us), Matt and myself swum around Hyles and collected boards and bunting and called it a day.
For Adrian, and all the people who have done anything for the Nat Cap this year, thanks a million. I can honestly say that Adrian was the most disappointed person out there this morning and although I felt bad because we didn't get to compete, I felt a bit worse for Adrian. Thanks again mate.
