Semmens hit a bank just before the speccie point on SS2 which slowed him down a bit for the rest of that stage. Left a nice dent in the nav's door .
Also Nathan, dunno why you said Vlad was beating you? He didn't beat you on any of the stages (although wasn't that far behind) and apparently hit a tree in stage 6.

Oh good, I broke the software... Or maybe Fro's meddling?*
You haven't seen the thread on AR?
I'd had like eight beers when I last saw the results - my ability to move my eyes along a horizontal line was greatly diminished...
I was looking at Richard's times, rather than Vlad's...
I did the same with Pete's and JW's times too - got beaten by Pete, hammered by JW. But I thought it was hammered by Pete, too scared to look at Jon's...
*Edit: I just got this from Fro, 2:26pm...
"Bugger.
Erk... sorry Dude. I think I just deleted a post of yours by mistake... The last one in the Bega Event Report thread..."
Damn it's hard being right all the time!

And as predicted by Hagar, Mr Ben Fawcett, was giving all the RWD's and most of the 4WD's "who's ya daddy?!" in the FWD Pulsar GTi *.
*At least for the first 7 stages...

I have it on good authority that Ben F has been getting a bit of "how to punt FWD's hard" training from one S. Evans ..... god help us all

I don't see that it's any different to yours or Bog's, smee? There seems to be a random animal theme going on at the moment.

For those who like statistics you may ponder the following.
Despite Beau Griggs impressive performance no records were broken. Fastest times for the last two years follow.
2003 2004
SS1 Sandy/Trinder 4:13 Griggs/Scott 4:21
SS2 Middleton/Benefield 5:32 Griggs/Scott 5:46
SS3 Middleton/Benefield 7:11 Dowel/Lee 7:24
SS4 Middleton/Benefield 3:45 Mitchell/Cadman 3:55
SS5 Windus/Cains 9:11 K.Croker/Moscatt 9:28
The average time of the top ten on the first five stages compared to the same stages in 2003 are:
Greendale +10.9 seconds
Upper Cobargo +10.1 seconds
Buckajo - 2.6 seconds
Coopers Gully +6.5 seconds
Broadwater +9.4 seconds
This reflects the rather untimely recent grading which reduced traction on the shire stages (apart from Buckajo)
However if you take 40th fastest time for both years
2003 2004
Greendale 4:53 4:53
Upper Cobargo 6:04 6:19
Buckajo 7:55 7:52
Coopers Gully 4:09 4:16
Broadwater 10:23 10:24
Although Upper Cobargo is a little anomalous one can generally conclude that the competition is getting tighter with 40th closer to the top ten than was the case last year.
As far as 2wd is concerned for those considering a more modern vehicle, have a look at Ben Fawcett's times in the Pulsar GTi. Dave King (please bow) did not have it all his own way, losing out on the shire stages by 16 seconds, but clawing back 1 second on SS5, 2 seconds each on SS6 and 7, but putting in the boot for 17 seconds on SS8 where (being the final stage of the VRC) Fawcett probably backed off. Probably cheaper than 4WD if you have the balls to punt it.
Curiously only 28 crews from 2003 turned up for 2004 for a rally that has to offer easily the most enjoyable roads in the country. Of course if they all turned up each year there would be a 200 car field!!

Celica Car 55
We were both massively disappointed with DNFing 300m from the end of Stage 3 Buckajo. Moments prior to stopping the form was just beginning to cut in. Grip was better here than the previous two stages and Geoff was beginning his best driving of the Rally to that point only to be snaffled away by a mechanical failure.
Without warning the engine appeared to have blown. On closer inspection, as there was no tell tale of oil, Geoff found that it was the Distributor Drive assembly that **** itself. A non load bearing part failure always makes the pain worse by detracting from the otherwise faultless preparation of the car.
Glen and Mark (Service Supremos) put in lots of late nights getting the car ready and were looking forward to seeing the fruits of their labour deliver a respectable finish. Anyway not to be this time.
