NSSCC annual Midyear Madness Motorkhana 30/6
Yesterday was the NSSCC annual Midyear Madness Motorkhana at the skidpan at Eastern Creek. I've never been to a khana so I was happy to just watch but I decided to get my first officials signature so I ended up timing (I was the dude in the rallychicks.com gear for those present).
I reckon that everyone drove really well. There were 30 entries covering a wide variety of cars from Dattos to Subis and everything else in between. Considering the courses that I saw, there were very few flags down and very few WD's. Special mention should go to the juniors for their efforts and they drove really well - certainly a lot better than I could when I was a junior (I couldn't drive and didn't have this sort of chance to do this sort of event) and come to think of it, they drove better than I would in my Poor Man's Celica but I might give it a go in the future. Certainly sitting in the left hand seat in Hev's Stigma at the end of the day was great (my first time in any sort of rally car) and it gave me a different point of view than the one I'd had all day.
At the same time, we had the Drift Nationals on on the circuit and as I said to some people "I thought the V8 Supercar guys could dribble some crap!". I could only see the "action" as it passed turn 12 from a distance but we had some people who were watching the drifting come over and watch our guys in action which can only be a good thing. I thought it might have been a bad clash but it could actually be to our advantage in future. Not that I'm here to start a drifting v rallying type debate in this thread........
I'll leave it to others who were there to tell us how they went........

Hev's Motorkhana Report
Went crap. Got sore arms.
End of report.
But now, at least, hubby might let me get power steering for the Stigma.
Anyone know what power steering will fit in a 1981 model Stigma? And where to find?

Power steering is for girls... oh, hang on
Whilst you hunt for suitable power steering hardware (surely there was a Sigma GXLSR26000*, or something can be adapted from Magna gear), have you thought about looking for a larger steering wheel? I know that people fit "sports" steering wheels for a variety of reasons, but soemtimes that extra leverage of a larger wheel can really make a difference.
* - You know what I mean... I don't know what the model designations were... there might have been a Sigma SuperDeluxeDeVilleBroughamGTX for all I know.

If you want the complete setup off a Magna to see if you can use it get in quick and I have one in the yard. I think (OK I'm guessing) that it's got power steering, didn't they all?

The Stigma hasn't been "fitted" with much since we got her, and the steering wheel is what was in it. That said, it is pretty small. Hadn't thought of that.
Still like the power steering option, but.
And, yes, I do think there is a version that can be adapted, but I'm being lazy and hoping that some other Sigma/Lancer sikko on here might be able to give me the answer...

I think 1981 Mitsu Scorpians had power steer. How close would they be to a Sigma in the engine bay, rack area ?

Hev,
Talk to Drew McPhee from AMSAG/TCC or the Masing family at Coltspeed.
Andrew.
P.S. David is investigating an unregistered vehicle permit to run his Sigma at the Starters Rally, he might come with me to the info night.

Hev,
Two solutions to avoid the extra weight and drag of power steering:
- Drive it on dirt
- Drive it faster
I.e. go rallying.
If it's any consolation, Jo has the same problem in the RX2, but boggered if it's getting PS.

Yeah, yeah, I hear ya! Don't have problems with it in rallies, my arms get a bit tired, but no more than the rest of me.

Hey AJ, thanks for the suggestion of talking to Drew. He told me to go to the gym, almost as sympathetic as Fro telling me to get a bigger steering wheel.

You never know, Fro may well be right. I don't know anything about putting power steering into a car but you'd have to take the steering wheel off anyway to put the new power steering in, wouldn't you?

So, what you're saying, Erk, is that I need Power Steering AND a new Steering Wheel... man, we're almost blowing the whole year's Team Stigma budget for mechanical work. Then again, it's cheaper than joining a gym, so it might be a goer!

Erin, oh Erin, can you copy this down for Wheelspin? Have to make sure I'm making my contribution!
