Nighto's 2009 P4 BMW 325
Ok here are the pics to confirm my insanity , as shabby said I'm a sicko.....
well at least I haven't gone to the dark side and started crawling around on all 4's....
I have been doing a lot of research and the 325 six cylinder motor in the E30 has a lot of potential for big RW HP, I went this way cause it looks good, It sounds awesome, they handle great, they have a similar rear end to a 1600 datto and mainly it fits the budget ( finishing off house )
In europe these are like datto's they are everywhere and they have been highly developed, for rally and circuit. and the internet is a wonderfull tool..
200 RW HP is very realistic with a few modifications.........so here we go a new build, what a winter project..........
Nighto..........

Dale loader ran one of these in the NSW Championship back in the 80's. It was a good car. He crashed on Watagan Rd and hurt his back and he never rallied again.
The car was very well built (BMW Factory rally build) and it handled superbly.
Go for it!

I remember hearing him testing it on the fire trail behind Galston Oval near his place. Awesome sound at full noise. I thought his BMW was four cyl & four wheel drive. But I could be wrong as he crashed it not long after I got in to Rallying.

I was there testing with him! It was a 325e. 2 litre 6 cylinder. Couldn't get the brake bias right, only to find they had fitted the master cylinders on the pedal box the wrong way round. Once we swapped em then it stopped OK.
PS There were some good roads in Galston.... We used em most nights.

Very, very nice Nighto. I suspect you've picked a winnah Looking at carsales these things are going pretty cheap for what they are. A guy called Callinan was running one at GLR last year, a lovely piece of kit and sounded awesome.
2009 you say?? better get a wriggle on ....

325e has a 2.7 litre bottom end, with a rather bodgy head, only 3 cam bearings and small ports e=eta=efficiency which also=pus-box that does not rev. Stick a 323i head on the thing and they start to move

Very good My daily driver is an 84 323i with the eta bottom end and a 325i head. I think the big catch is that the 325i head alone on the eta block gives you a lower CR than with the 323i. If you are going for aftermarket pistons, then who cares really I honestly don't know what pistons are in mine, but my pile of receipts show that the block was decked a bit. It does have a schrick 288 in it, and schrick valves and springs. Makes peak power right before the 6500rpm rev cut. I did one dirt motorkhana in it and it was fun. Unlike the 02 where you really have to get the handbrake action right, if you ballsed it up in the 30, nail it and she comes around all right
What are your plans diff wise? The US spec M3s ran a 4.10 LSD, with an OD 5 speed that will see around 190 at 5500rpm. That with a close ratio box would be rather nice.
Did I mention that I approve???

So you've got an engine that revs all the past "full" on the fuel gauge?
Expect us to be impressed by that?
And all the time there's a little red "check" light flashing. "Check" is probably the Bavarian dialect for "faaarck!!!"
Now watch the video again, translating "check" every time the light flashes .............

Colin McRae- For any successful driver, it's confidence. Self-belief. But that's in anything in life. If you're confident in what you're doing and you really believe in yourself that you can pull it off, then generally you will.
