A local car club looking to get a hillclimb off the ground
Thought some might be interested.
Motor race to boost tourism - Local News - News - General - Cooma Monaro Express
It a good bit of hill they have here, even thought it will be a tarmac event good to see some keen guys trying to get somting running.
Google Maps
From my point of view it shows a real change in attitude to motorsports by the council. this can only be good news, Now to get them to allow access to the endless (Almost) shire roads up around the cooma snowy high country.

Geez - That looks to a fast hillclimb track. It all depends on how steep the hill is I suppose..

A few bails of hay, chichane, will slow you doiwn.
All up its a good evelation change with some tough corners.
But if the council will put $30k into a fixed asset. Would they give access to over 500Km of good rally road?

Looks good. They might even be able to run a rallysprint course on the left side of the hill too.

The Cooma Monaro Shire Council has had a positive mindset for motoring events for many years.
The challenge remains that you need approvals from the traffic committee (with reps from Council, Police and RTA) and you can't afford to upset any residents.
Police and RTA like a quiet life. No events mean less things to go wrong. They have no interest in building tourism or sports.

Mr Ferguson,
Please keep us abreast of developments down at Cooma. I'm dead keen to have a crack at that hillclimb.

My current understanding is that RTA have given approval
The Canberra Hillclimb club are well involved in the process (Due to loosing Fairburn park???)
and we are looking at a March date 2011.

Is there 2011 confirmed dates for SDMA fairburn hillclimb events yet?
And a date for the Cooma events?

Apparently some of the Cooma club members were at the last SDMA hillclimb as observers in preparation for the cooma hillclimb opening soon...
