Wanted subaru 22b for display
Hi,
Bit of a weird and wonderful one but i'm trying to get hold of another Subaru 22B use as a wedding car.
We realise these are quite rare and some people may not want there 22B out of there site and they wont be.
We already have one of the original 22B's that come to Australia to use and would like to chase up one more. We don't mind paying a fair amount and also don't mind freighting car to Bendigo. Even if the owner was the driver we don't mind and we can put them up the night at a motel. (so can treat as weekend away with some good cash in there pocket)
We are a Subaru and Honda dealer in Victoria so we respect how people look after there cars and would do the same. (Mid October 2010)
Any help or thoughts would be much appreciated.
cheers
Scott

I've linked this thread for the 22B drivers to see to our club forums. One of them I believe will be in the area even so we'll see

Out of interest, how many 22B's are in Australia? Are they all legit?
How were they brought in or are they race only? I didn't think they'd ever be registerable.

There's 5 that were sold offically and a few imports after that from the UK. I dont believe any were bought in as a race/rally. I'd doubt there was any more than 10 in the country
I believe they can be bought in legally as they are deemed to be special interest vehicles.

The five that were delivered to Aus were originally considered non-ADR compliant. However, I understand Subaru Australia went through certain processes which then meant the cars were considered ADR compliant and became registerable. I believe one of the five was lost in the 2003 ACT bushfires. There are some personal imports not just from the UK, but also from Japan - one sold last month in Sydney for ~$70k, brought to Australia from Tokyo by its owner.
Oh, and technically only four of the five were "sold" in Australia, as one was given to Subaru Australia's top performing sales person in 1998.

That might be a myth: getting confused with John Austin's 2 door STi which did get destroyed, which wasn't a 22B.

Subaru "went through certain processes to make them ADR compliant"...wonder what that was...smells a bit dodgy.
Personal imports make sense...just any association with Subaru I would have thought was risky...they'd be interested in limiting their exposure on those.
