Preparation of your car between rallys
I have asked what we do before a rally now its time to find out what the poor car gets. This is related to the time everything is repaired/fixed, replaced, upgraded, cleaned or what ever else.
For me the car is taken of the trailer after an event cleaned then in the shed and unfortunately sits there untill a few days before the next event everything gets done. This normally results in me being stressed out thinking I have to much to do and not enough time. For a bigger event like Bega I try and take some time off work and get it all finished, but even then I still end up doing something in the carivan park at Tathra before the event.
Probable causes, A child, Wife wants other things done, I always seem to leave things to the end, Money, Drinking Beer, Life(time management).

Plan is always to have the car ready two weeks before the rally. Unfortunately the Laser has been named "Christine" by the crew after the Steven King horror movie of the same name - I haven't seen the movie, but apparently it explains all.
Christine is up to her usual tricks again. We have the Akademos VRC rally this weekend, so two weeks ago Christine decided that she didn't want to be dyno tuned - so she started developing an intermittant fault that caused her to backfire, stall, and generally misbehave and become undrivable. The dyno guys spent hours looking for the fault, but to no avail. They rewired half the damn car, changed sensors, and tried everything. But Christine decided to be difficult by only being intermitantly horrible.
The dyno guys gave up in the end, they just couldn't locate it. So we were recommended to a Motec dealer who we were assured would be able to sort the problem out. So off I set this morning at 6am with Christine in tow to drop her off before starting work. But Christine decided that she wanted to still keep playing games with us, and that she didn't want to be fixed. So Christine decided that she would cause a truck to crash on the Monash Freeway, which then caused another truck to crash going in the opposite direction. Then just for ****s and giggles Christine also caused a fire truck that was responding to the first crash to also crash. End result - total mayhem for Melbourne as both freeways were closed for morning peak hour, and what should have been a 1 hour journey to drop Christine off became 3.5 hours.
But hey we are determined that Christine will start the rally this weekend, even if we have to push her over the bloody start line! Eventually the Motec dealers located a problem - an intermittant fault in an ignition module that only happens in cold weather. But having found the fault Christine then decided to have some more fun with us - we need to run matching ignition modules, and there was no stock available of the faulty one. So we had to buy 2 new ignition modules. Total cost of finding and fixing this latest Christine problem - $2580.14
Another example of Christine at work - our engine builder ordered a set of custom forged pistons from CP Pistons in the U.S. - takes six weeks to get them made. Christine caused Fedex to lose the shipment of pistons. So eventually we had to get CP to make another set - another six weeks. They eventually arrived. So did the original set - Christine organsied for them to be delivered the very next day after the second set arrived.
Never again will I ever buy a car that is this complex

Standard bore size, the custom design was mainly to achieve the high compression. Never actually saw them myself, the engine builders had waited for them for so long that they were straight onto them as soon as they arrived.
