Greetings and salutations

Hi folks,

I'm a fellow Canberran (10 years) and enthusiastic amateur photographer (25 years).

This year's RoC was my first rally, got to meet a few of the members here and enjoyed our chats in between the gravel or water being sent flying nearby.

I don't sell my photos and I'm not offering/plugging any services. I am however keenly interested in getting out to the other rallys held around Canberra and getting exciting shots of you folks racing around.

I'll also try to get to some of the BMSC meetings - good shots are more enjoyable when you know who's in them and can share.

kind regards,

Nigel

Hi Nigel,

Welcome aboard. You'll certainly be welcome around here if you're going to take happy snaps of people having fun!

You'll definately be welcome to other events, just check out the rally calander to the left of your screen. Even better, ask around and if you put your name down for a road closure, you can get your own special speccie point, and let the volunteer co-ordinators know that you're a keen photographer, and you should get a better view, as long as you're willing to share your photos!

The next local event is BRM, 26 July, but check out the calander, as there are a few other events between now and then, if you're willing to travel a bit.

We hope to see you around.

Cheers,

Linda

Hi nigel

i think i met you at the water splash on saturday.

Good to see you took my advice and joined us here.

Don't forget to pop your pics online i'm sure you will get lots of pm's asking for high res versions.

Your shots looked great.

Thanks for the welcome Linda.

When browsing through the site set up for this year's RoC I recall seeing a similar comment, that's if I'm not misinterpreting "...put your name down for a road closure..." to mean the same thing as "Road Closure Marshal". While I appreciate the need for marshalls to stage the events, that's not my deal.

It was challenging last weekend to get interesting shots from what areas were available to the paying public. By comparison, from a creativity perspective, I expect being a road marshall would be the creativity equivalent of putting a ball-and-chain on my leg during a 40-yard dash.

Apologies if the above makes me sound like a primadona. My contributions to the local rally fraternity would almost certainly be in other areas, most likely (safe) roving photography at the rallys, but potentially pre-rally activity and information handling if things pan out well.

I know very little about the operations of a rally, I have much to learn, and my aim is to be useful rather than an annoyance, however my primary focus will always be getting interesting and exciting images.

regards,

Nigel

Hi Judy,

If the guy you were talking to made frequent comments about the bright orange hose at the water splash, then yes, that would be me. Maybe next year we'll round up a collection of hessian bags to donate to the camoflaging of the hose.

I'm sorry to say that while a lot of the shots from Saturday were keepers, none of them will make it on-line for many months yet. I'm set up for capturing (taking) images, but there's some gear on the computing side that I'm saving up to buy so that I can do processing at a quality that I'm happy with. In addition to a faster processor and a lot more file storage space, the monitors are about $2k. For the moment I haven't got a monitor that can be colour-calibrated properly, and I don't want to send out images with weird colour casts in them; "That is certainly lush forest. And was it St Patricks day, a lot of the spectators seem to have painted their faces?".
