Hi
Hi I'm 21 year old guy from Adelaide learning about cars. Mainly the 1960 - 1900 N/A 4 cylinders. I found this site most informative mechanically.
I bought a 74 LA GL Sedan for $220 with a buggered diff hoping just to get to A. to B. until i could afford something else. Almost a year later the lancer has bit of excessive crankshaft bearing clearance but it's still going hard.

I hope to restore it myself for road use, tarmac rallies and drift sessions.
If you have any sites that you think might interest me or if you'd just like to show off your restoration project please PM me.

Hi, it's always good to get new members from other states.
Perhaps I should point out though, that no one on this forum actually RESTORES anything. We're all much better at bending, breaking and then sometimes completely destroying our cars

I know of four LA lancers that compete in historic events around Sydney and parts of NSW. Apologies to the others I've forgotten.
One of them has a nice paintjob and just a few mods like sump guard and a half cage.
The other three (including my one) are all dedicated rally cars with the associated battle scars and modifications.
Most of the lancers still around these days fall into two categories - the bog stock uni student/senior citizen special with venetian blinds, or the competition cars for rally and circuit.
Very rare to see a nice restored one - good luck with the project.

Importantly, were they homologated with venetians, or were they part of the standard Aussie spec ??

They would be part of the "Granny standard spec"

Yes they were - but not the "trick" lightweight carbonfibre ones. They have the dreaded "not for PRC" stamp on them....

Apologies el cheapo for this can of worms.
I better take some of the heat off el cheapo.
Confession time: I bought my first lancer for $200 when I was at uni and painted it for $23 with "Blue Fury" house paint and a brush.
Not pretty, but an introduction to rear wheel drive and an avenue into club motorsport nonetheless.

Matt,
Well, yes...... and original Chrysler Valiant Lancer hubcaps. Have to admit that the paint job is a rather thin backyard job done by the previous owner.
And I can't help it if I drive like an old pensioner

BYE!
I let the car go.
I was determined not to be the "stereo dreamer" "gonna put stickers `n quad turb twin intercooled" etc etc. Even the thought of cutting out a bit of rust was too much.
Anyway .. . I had fun KEEPING the thing going for the year OR so i had it. Defected.. . HANDBRAKE. Minor defect but enough for the resource less person that I am to PAY someone to take away to the wrecking yard. ..yada yada yada
lost dependence - mobility. Gained MORE independence - moved into flat by myself (decided not to take the car with me--- wouldn’t fit on bus).

I'll be back.

Nothing wrong with Historical Racing, my Austin Healey Sprite goes quite hard given its age and the fac tit only has a 1098cc engine.
