DoomTroopa is yet to show credentials
Hello from Canberra

Hey ppl,

Just joined as I've always been interested in cars and racing and would love to get involved anyway I can, presently I don't have a car license (don't ask) but would love to get involved and help out as pit crew if possible and maybe become a co-driver one day. I'm an engineer by trade but enjoy tinkering with engines etc and would love the opportunity to learn and help out where I can. If anyone is in a position where then need someone just let me know. I'm in Canberra btw.

Cheers,

Richard

Welcome Aboard Richard.

Your services will be snapped up shortly no doubt.

Once your at an event, introduce yourself to people. Unlike other forms of motorsport, rally people are really friendly.

Best of luck.

Ray

G'day Richard,

Car club meetings are a good place to have a chat to a range of people, find out what events are coming up, who needs a hand prepping cars to make that event, who needs help servicing their car during an event, or if an event needs volunteers to help to do a control at the start/stages/service parks/finish.

The two rally-orientated car clubs in Canberra are:

* Brindabella Motor Sport Club (BMSC): monthly general meetings are the first Tuesday of each month, 7:30pm start, at the Weston Club (next to Coolamon Court) - these forums are brought to you courtesy of BMSC

* Light Car Club of Canberra (LCCC): monthly general meetings are the second Monday of each month, 7:30pm start, at the Woden Tradesmens Club (next to Woden Plaza).

Put a post up if you need a lift to/from a car club meeting or an event, and I'm sure one of the forum members will be happy to help out - just mention what suburb/area you're in.

I'm equally sure you'll find forum members in Canberra who'd love you to hang round their sheds on nights/weekends twirling spanners and/or offering advice.

Being part of a service crew during events, and doing controls/road closures and other volunteer jobs at events are both excellent ways to learn about rallying, the format of events and the timing systems used before you jump in to codrive for someone.

BTW, you don't need a civil drivers licence to codrive/navigate - only the relevant car club membership (eg. from BMSC, LCCC, AMSAG) and competition licence (eg. from CAMS or AASA) relevant to the particular event you plan to compete in.
