No one likes volunteering these days due to the backlash they get from competitors.

That works both ways too. It is often made a lot harder than it should be for the competitors as well right? There are several suggestions here to make things easier and I'll be making sure they are looked into using the proper channels.

I agree with you on the seat belt issue, Andrew, Mind you, this never bothers me as I always have the top level of gear and replace it once it is expired. This is my personal choice as I compete in all levels of competition and it is easier knowing I have stuff which covers everything. I understand the 5 year rule thingy helps lower level competitors regarding cost but at the same time, they can hit a tree at the same pace as a state level competitor.

I also agree with you regarding an official who may be over zealous. There are always 2 sides to a story and I applaud you for going to go through the appropriate channels to raise these issues. We have competed/been involved in a couple of disciplines in nearly all states now and the inconsitencies when we work from the same rules/CAMS manual is unbelievable.

IMHO, some CAMS rules are a joke. Don't even get me started on chrome molly cage issues and the difference between allowing to run them in rally and off-road. That is definitely a joke. Or the spec our 1200 is in which we legally need to run in SA but in other states, would get away with completely not having to follow the rules!

A decision which was arrived at after actual testing, remember.

re First Aid Kit contents - if the manufacturer reckons they are no good past a certain date, I am happy to take their word for it in the absence of info to the contrary. (Note to self - check "use by" dates on contents of first aid kit !)

I thought this was a given.

Another thing to note, if the scrute was very pedantic, and you had something in your first aid kit that was not specified, you could be failed for that also.

Also, has anyone really been able to define what a small medium and large safety pin is. The large one I wanted to take to a specific scrutineering would not have fit in the back of the car.......

Some take this as having to contain and dont like additions.

Again, in consistent applications of the rules.

Bu, if you have something additional and it is out of date, then again a failure.

I choose not to tempt fate and just put in what is requested.
