The Berg is yet to show credentials
Back the Front

Sorry to sound like a newby, but, I'm a newby to this game.

I have seen people advertise for Navigators, crew and so on but, If I had a car and needed a driver to drive it until I learnt a few things, would that be accepted or not.

Mitchell

Mitchell,

I'm sure it would be accepted, but the question of who you would get to drive it would be interesting.

IMVHO, you'd be better served by navigating for someone else (in their car) to learn. Depending on who you pick to navigate for, they'll have all the ancillary bits sorted out, and you can get a better idea of what's required, outside of the driving (car preparation, servicing, event details, etc).

And no doubt, it would be cheaper, and less risk to your investment.

Hi and welcome
listen to fro,
You should get out and drive your own car, or you could find a driver with a car like yours and prehaps enter a rally sprint in which you can swap drivers and codrivers, that way you can watch and drive the same stage a valuable way to learn.
Any way you do it , You need to discuss the What if facts !!! before you agree to anyone else driving your car

GO for it !!!!!

God I hate when i logs me off, pretty much what Rallyprodoug has said

No on a serious note
Why not do a few days with a rally school and then get your self a experienced nav and get out there.
I cant see how you are going to learn any more by letting some body else drive.

I think this is alot of why people don't have a go in rallying as they feel that they don't have the skills, We all have to start some where, be it at the back middle or front as long as you are happy and having fun.
There is alot of people out there that are happy to help kick start your rally career,
As you will find out

I have been involved in the sport for 4yrs now and still amazed at the people that are happy to give there experiences, car setups, etc, Only then to be racing against them the following weekend.

So grab your car and get out there.

Mitchell,

Give the guys at Sideways Action Rally Schools - Driving Courses and Advanced Driver Training a call and get along to them.

Sounds like you've already got a car? What sort? I'm sure if you chat to Mick, he could tailor some tutelage for your needs.

The Rallyschools are fine but the advice (from forum users) is wrong in many ways. What the path should be is to join a car club and the senior club members will guide and assist you.

Many experience rally people will sit in with a newbie for an event or two and act as a mentor. Through a car club you are likely to find someone you get on with and is willing to help you. If not... you're in a 5hit club.

JME I am so hoping you made a punctuation error here or perhaps you would like to expound your views on why the advice offered at Rallyschool's or indeed Rallyschool is so wrong in your view.
Then you might like to run through the expierience that the various instructors have at all levels of the sport which they very clearly and openly pass on to anybody who is interested. again I hope it was just a typo

Nah I wrote it bad. I've never heard a bad word about Rallyschool- knowing the people I'm sure they'd do a good job. My point was that clubs need to take responsibility here. Join a club. That's what clubs are for... right?

Try going to motorkhanas and khanacrosses to start. They're generally a relaxing social day, you can get non speed experience in your own car, with minimal cost and compare notes with others competing / spectating on the day.

Your car also doesn't have to be fully kitted as a rally car.
