I'd have a crack, but I'm pretty sure I'd spend more time in gobsmacked awe of the sheer speed of a WRC car and trying to hide the enormous woody I'd have than I would actually calling the notes. Recipe for disaster!
I vote for Kate, she can get as excited as she likes and nobody will be able to tell without going for a row of sexual assault charges...

Giovanni Bernacchini was apparently offered the job but has turned it down as he doesn't want to leave Nasser Al-Attiyah mid season

Yeah, you tell 'em Sosi. It took me 30 years years to finally yak up my lunch! Sometimes all the practise you've had at holding it in and knowing how to get that full face helmet off when the time eventually arrived while still calling the shots, is all brought undone by a driver who thinks you're just joking and won't pull over (... on a liaison) and a HANS Device that you forgot was still tethered to the flamin' helmet!
My admiration goes to the talented few of us who can actually loosen the belts, open the door, call the instruction, lean out the door, vomit, spit, clear their throat, spit again, reassume the upright position, shut the door, resume the countdown into the corner, tighten the belts, call the corner, zero the tripmeter ... and continue on without the driver noticing anything but the slamming of a door! I have even seen photograhic of friend of mine doing the described act ... and on more than one occassion! Now that's Co Drivin'! Mind you ... in an age of HANS and Stilo Helmets with a fixed mic boom/jaw ... his chances of leaving all of the carrots and corn on the road would be a lot slimmer!

No Decisions Made Yet
Solberg surprised by co-driver interest
News
16th June 2010
By Richard Rodgers
Petter Solberg says he has been surprised by the interest from co-drivers hoping to replace Phil Mills in the right-hand seat of his Citroen C4 WRC.
The Norwegian has not yet decided who will partner him in the Petter Solberg World Rally Team, but said a decision is expected by early next week.
“I have to decide soon,” said Solberg, “but it’s really not easy. I had some contact with Giovanni Bernachini [NasserAl Attiyah’s co-driver] but he has the contract already. This is the difficulty. Some of the guys have the contract for the rest of the season. I would say I have around 20 people contacting me – all of them with good CVs. I’m surprised at the quality of co-drivers out there who want to join the team, there’s a lot of passion for the sport out there. I will make a decision soon.”
Solberg and Mills contested 152 rounds of the World Rally Championship together, winning 13 rallies and one world title in 2003. Mills announced he was departing the team at the end of last week.
The WRC resumes in Bulgaria from July 8-11.
So, should we start a list of who we think would have applied....
1. Ray Baker
2. Kate Murphy
3. Dale Moscatt
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
9.
10.

And the winner is ...........................
41 year old Chris Patterson
Solberg picks his new co-driver
Petter Solberg will be co-driven by Chris Patterson following a test of three potential co-drivers in France yesterday.
The 41-year-old Patterson was Solberg’s preferred choice after a three-way shootout, which involved writing and then reading notes at rally speed in Solberg’s Citroen C4 WRC.
Patterson will be Solberg’s first change of co-driver since 1999, following Phil Mills’ decision to call time on his career alongside the Norwegian. Solberg and Mills competed on 152 rounds of the World Rally Championship together, winning 13 rallies and one world title. Solberg hopes to find that winning feeling with Patterson soon.
“Chris was the best for me,” said Solberg. “I knew him from before, but that didn’t make any difference; I decided from what I saw and felt during the day. He’s a good guy, very motivated, honest and calm, he’s what I need. I want him to get into that winning feeling as soon as possible.”
The Solberg-Patterson partnership will be back onboard the Petter Solberg World Rally Team C4 WRC in Bulgaria this weekend, where they will tackle a two-day test in preparation for the next round of the WRC.
Like Solberg, Patterson has already captured a world title, winning the 2006 Production Car World Rally Championship with Nasser Al-Attiyah. Having started his WRC co-driving career in 1993, Patterson is recognised as one of the world’s most experienced navigators.
“It’s not going to be easy,” said Solberg. “It will take some time to settle in with Chris on the first rally, but I’m sure it will be good. Chris has some big shoes to fill.”
Mills will attend Rally Bulgaria with the PSWRT in an advisory capacity.
