Skittle is yet to show credentials
National Capital Rally

Hi,

Just wondering how soon in advance people start to book their seats?!

I'll be in Oz for the NCR and would like a Nav Seat, I'm sorting out all of the necessary licenses etc now.

How soon will people start looking and what info do you need from me?

I'm principally a driver, but have won a couple of champs as a Nav, in varied seats, everything from a season with a Rookie driver (class win) to an experience Group N ex Prodriver impreza seat winning Welsh Forest Clubmans champ (class win and 3rd overall) in 2005

Any tips, pointers or advise are welcomed :-)

Skittle

Nat Cap is a blind event with a lot of close calls.

Very demanding on the Nav to get it right if you have not run there before.

If the right stages are going to be run, I'm looking at heading over again.

Have a look in the video section. It shows a few of the stages from different cars.
Note! In summer, the temperature in the cars can reach almost 60 degrees. A number of people have passed out from these conditions so it does require mental, as well as physical strength. In 2006, I had my Nav almost faint from heat stress, and a year later I think it was, a nav needed to be airlifted from a stage after he passed out.

I remember getting out of the car at the end of tidbinbilla lane after the stage and falling flat on my arse. Got Forbesy to drive back.

Man it was hot that year. JS had over 60 degrees in his car. He had his window down, we had to have ours up because the dust was really bad in the VR4.

Got back to service and had to strip down to my boxers and have iced water poured on me. Wasn't good. Toughest Day of rallying I ever had.

End thread hijack...

That was the only rally where i was glad to have DNF'd
I popped 2 tyres in stages through overheating, and at the next service just threw in the towel through exhaustion

Ben.

She did ask for advice, and coming from Autumn/Winter a hot day in a rally car can take a bit of getting used to.

Someone maybe able to link some road books, to give you an idea.
Not sure if Fiona has any online somewhere.
Will have to have a look.

hehe yeah I know - just messing with you guys

maybe Skittle (and others) need to follow TKM's advice and pack a concrete pill in their first aid kits? (note to self - make sure said pill isn't out of date)

reminds me of an old Top Gear episode I saw the other day where Button was in the reasonably priced car on a "hot day" and Button said he had to have the air-con on! What sort of driver would turn the air-con on on a hot lap knowing it will drain power??

I should own up and say I haven't really had a "hot" day in a car yet, and in full gear in the Aussie sun behind glass in a car with no insulation from the motor / exhuast -oh yeah, i'd be "glad" of a DNF too (in a weird twisted way)

Maybe Skittle should "practice" by sitting in a sauna for a couple hours before coming over?...
