Rally in Aus with International FIA license
Hello from France,
I will be back in Aus for a few weeks in September and would like to do the rally of Great Lakes (not the ARC but clubman) while i am here since i have not sold my car yet.
I got a french national rally license and did not renew my CAMS license.
I can upgrade my current french license to International FIA license category C (i think) for a few extre euros. But the question is, can i compete in this rally with it or not?
Or do i need to try to renew my cams license (they might give me a hard time too as i already have a french license).
I emailed CAMS already and no reply so far.
Anyone got an idea for the best way for me to do this rally?
Their is a rally the following weekend in ACT as well, would not mind doing neither, then same question apply.
Thanks.
Matt Durand
PS: I will be looking for a nav if anyone up to it.

I think you need a CAMS licence, or a MSNZ (New Zealand) licence. I'm fairly sure of it. FIA licences not applicable as not FIA permits.

Matt,
in order to apply for the CAMS licence, you are required to have
your french licence cancelled.
if you are a french citizen, CAMS will try to verify with the
french motorsport authority whether or not you are already a holder
of valid french rally licence.
this can sometimes be a long process but all non-australian citizens
residing in Australia have to be validated in such way.
btw. I was always under the impression that one could compete in
another country with a valid FIA intl. rally licence as long as
your national motorsport authority issued you with a permit (visa)
to compete in the event.
(hopefully Mark Zellner or Cambell Andreas from CAMS will get back to
you with some clarification)
cheers
Pete

I tried to do a 'clubman' style rally in Scotland when I was there a few months back on holidays and according to them I had to cancel my CAMS license and apply for one of their 'cams equlivant' licenses - I can't remember the name of their governing body. Something about it being issues on behalf of F.I.A and you can only have one lic.
Anyhow, trouble I hit in scotland was that without a local address they wouldn't supply me with one.
I tried to go down the international license route and the response I got from Scotish Motorsport authority was that it wouldn't be accepted in an event that wasn't of international status...
I would like to think our local cams body would be more progressive as a motorsport license is issues on behalf of F.I.A hence it should be bloody accepted in my opinion.

Sorry, Justin, CAMS and progressive in the same sentence made me giggle.

Say nothing speak to no one, renew your cams licence for the 150 or so bucks and go your hardest. At the best of times CAMS wouldn't know if the Southern Aurora was parked up their backsides until the passengers got off and only then if some were wearing Stilletoes

The renewal will be sweet. What CAMS don't know can't hurt them.
