Start with motorkhanas, 12 years old.
Khanacross 14.
Level 2 speed licence you can run hillclimbs at 16 I think.
Rally co driver older than 12?
At Nabiac you can drive in a rallysprint at 16.
For regular special stage rallies, P plates needed, so 17 there.
I know there is special provision for L plate drivers to go in rallies, with approval from lots of people, but I feel 17 is early enough.
My 2 sons both started at 12 in mkhanas and could have easily at 16 driven in rallies but they both waited that extra year and started driving in a Gemini series car, nice and slow, when they got P s.
They have to have the responsibility for their own safety but also the co driver, that's a big thing.
I'm all for getting more young folk into rallying, just at least 17 at least for drivers. Now I can't get Nick & David out of the 4WD turbo cars, and they go faster than me, buggers.
Richard.
