Monit Info Required

Any one be so kind to post up here, or PM me a wiring diagram for a monit rally computer? Do Monit have a special plug like a terratrip?

Also, a drilling diagram so when I get mine I can just bolt it straight up rather than mucking about...

Theres some Boags in the fridge if someone wants to bring theirs around for a trial fit...

G'day Rallyray,

You can download a copy of the Monit Manual from www.monitrally.com. It also shows the mounting locations. Just make sure you put the hole for the connector on the correct side!

I'm not 100% sure now (I'd have to have a look at the Monit in the car) but I think that the connector block hole should be on the right side, when you are looking from the front of the Monit unit (the Monit manual actually doesn't say!).

The drawing posted here (which is basically the same as that in the Monit manual) shows it on the left (which I think is what you'd see when you look at the back of the unit).

Whilst there is no complete wiring diagram in the manual (they have basic diagrams covering go-juice and auxilary input connections), they have a table describing the required connections.

Hope this is useful....

Rgds

Dirk

PS - When I get a chance to have a look at the car again I'll confirm which side the connector hole is on (unless someone else beats me to it!)

OK,

I must be stupid.

I just got my monit and there are seven choices.

red- battery
Black -earth
White- Aux A Input
Brown- Aux B input
Orange- Sensor +5v Supply
Blue- Speed Signal INput
Yellow-Sensor Ground

SO, obviously Red and Balck are simple.

I need to wire in a foot remote/horn button to complete the circuit. I wire the White wire into one side of the button. What do I put on the other side?

Also,

I have two wires coming from the probe. to which wires do I hook that up to?

And the speed sensor wire? WTF? Where???

Simple thoughts please... Its been a big week.

red- battery - Marked with a +, often RED.
Black -earth - Also on the Battery, Marked -, often black... or just screw it to the car body.

White- Aux A Input - wire it to a button. Connect other side to ground. (see earth)
Brown- Aux B input Leave it alone!

Orange- Sensor +5v Supply
Blue- Speed Signal INput
Yellow-Sensor Ground

These 3 are for the probe. Yellow goes to one side of the probe, but not sure how you connect up the. If its a terratrip probe it'll probably be 5V supply and you have to get the polarity right. If you wire the probe wrong the smoke shouldn't get out, just will not work. You have to setup the monit to tell it its a 5V probe.
If you don't find the instructions (and can read) I'd go through the menu's and see if you tell it its a 2 wire 5V probe. Then measure the voltages, if you are lucky the blue one reads 5V. If so wire it to the probe. If not, I'm not sure how monit expects you to wire it/

If you toast a probe... Fro still has one of mine thats for sale

Polarity? Neg or Pos?

From the manual-
The type of speed signal accepted by the device is a digital pulse that switches between 0-5v or 0-12v and with a freq of less than 1kHz.

Surely someone else has used a terratrip probe with this?

Are you sure that the terratrip probes are 0-12v
I was led to believe that terratrip probes are 0-5v which is why the units blow up when you use the standard speedo signal on a mitsubishi.
the probe supplied with the Monit is 0-5v, 3 wire
which goes from
probe to TC100
brown - orange +5v
black- blue input signal
blue- black earth

Good point, not 100% certain long time since I measured the probe. Ray ... still not sure how to wire it up though!
Doh ... now there are quotes with the wrong info everywhere!

12V probes FTW IMO!

Folks,

We damaged our very old (from what Terratrip advised >20yrs!) 2 wire Japanese terratrip probe and had to replace it with a 3 wire Japanese Terratrip probe......

We couldn't get the old T404 going again and my driver then upgraded to the Monit.

The wires that came out of the new Terratrip Probe were labelled on the Terratrip box as (I'm not sure of the wire colours) :
To Pin 2 - Sensor pulse (White? )
To Pin 10 - +5V supply (Orange?)
To Pin 11 - Negative Ground (Black?)

The latest Terratrip manual (from their website www.terratrip.co.uk) states that their newer probe supply voltage is +5V. I measured the voltage coming out of the old T404 and got a similar result (it was around 4.5V)

We connected these to the Monit unit as follows:

PIN2 (T'Trip probe) = BLUE - Speed Signal Input (Monit)
PIN 10 (T'Trip probe) = ORANGE - Sensor +5V Supply (Monit)
PIN 11 (T'Trip probe) = YELLOW - Sensor Ground (Monit)

To my complete and utter surprise, this worked first time!!!

The default setting in the Monit for the probe supply voltage that we got was +5V.

As for the auxiliary inputs, I've connected both of them to momentary type footswitches, one on either side of my codriver footrest (the stopwatch one, see below, is positioned so that I can't accidentally bump it)

Connect the Auxiliary A wire to one side of the footswitch terminal and the other terminal of the footswitch is connected to the car chassis ground). Ditto for the Auxiliary B wire.

Using the "Settings Menu" I've set Auxiliary A to "Clear Interval" which obiously clears the interval distance. Auxiliary B is set to "Stopwatch" which starts and stops the stopwatch.

No issues to date.

Regards
Dirk
