Did you want to use one, or have someone do it for you.....
I have a little MIG welder that can cope with thin metal, depending on the skill of the operator.
(my welding on thin stuff is fairly spotty/lumpy, but if that doesn't worry you I'd be happy to have a go......)

just spoke with the old man and a MIG might have to much grunt
next request is an oxy
lumpy is no worries as it will need to be ground to shape after

If you're trying to weld the rusty bits, you'll struggle with blowing holes through it regardless of the method you use. If you cut back to good metal and weld patches over the holes (proper way to do it) then a MIG will be fine.
Oxy is a good cheap way to do it if you have access to one, and of course a TIG will do nicely too.

I've got some 0.6mm wire for my little MIG (I just need to find it), it would be a better bet for thin stuff.

Dosent matter
Get a lowish powered mig and some fill (Wire roll of the right type and feed the weld as you are going , Just like tig welding)
Better to get it hot and flowing (melt the steel together) and then add wire / material to the process to temper to whole weld (Just like oxy) than not getting it hot enough will leave it very week.
