Setting up pedal boxes. And spray tanks!!!
Just for Fly...ITS VR4 TIME! Cue PETESGARARGE MUSIC!
In this installment we will be looking at pedalboxes, More inportantly, How they should be set up.
Now any good Car setuper person has the Fred Pugh book on brakes and the details within on setting up the pushrodlengths.
Cue book
Now my question is a bit wierder than that... Should the clevis's on the balancebar be resting on the sides of the pedal tube or should you aspire to have the pushrods perpendicular?
Obviously here my Master cylinders are apart and the tube in the pedal isnt as wide....
Should you have washers between the tube and the Clevis's
Is it ok for the Balance bar to have some slight ( halfa centermetreish) side movement allowable or should I make sure its shimmed up (Somehow...) Should I just say poo to this and buy a boat?
Now, onto the boats..... as I can run 20 litres of water for sprayin in the intercooler, I have 2 easy options.
A 20 litre plastic jerrycan in the back
or
2X 10 litre jerrycans , One on each side of the Rear seat area. So im thinking 2 supercheap auto boat tanks! ( And the current mazda washer bottle as a headder / surge tank! )
Is 10 litres plenty? Was it a fad in the 90's like being EMO? ( I actually found it made a difference personally but im running the "Small " intercooler) Should I just go and buy a 2WD..Oh bum, Ive got one.....
Thankyou for reading this and remember, you cant get the last 5 minuites back!

spray tank
the best thing for the spray tank is
1 or even 2 windscreen washers motors
a couple of stand of brackets
a tuned length of whatever diametter PVC plumbing pipe you want to use
a couple of end caps to suit same pipe
some fitting for filling that tank with water
some fittings for the other end of the tank for a breather
drill holes in one of the end caps to take the push in seals for the washer motors, glue it all together, leak test and then mount in the rear of the car any where you like
I fitted mine were the back seat use to be, looks professional and is functional
I used 2 washer motors, 1 as a back up
if you want diametters and lengths I made mine for (holds 20 liters) and or photos let me know
cheers
Steve

For a wrx, I normally run about 0.5 liter/min onto the intercooler. The mitsu does not suffer as bad for intake temp, so maybe a bit less.

Peter,
This should be shimmed up so that the threaded clevis holders on the balance bar are very close to the tube in the centre of hte balance bar. This is for two reasons:
1. The balance bar relys on the clevis holders to keep the sliding bearing correctly located inside the tube. If there is slack between the tube and the clevis holders then the balance bar can move from side to side on its own inside the tube, rendering highly unpredictable brake balance.
2. If you have a failure on one of the circuits, the assy tends to bind up with the excessive movement due to one pushrod not meeting any resistance and you still retain some braking ability on the other circuit.

Can you run a spray tank in the VR4?
I always thought you couldn't seen they didn't come out with one.

Ben , Where are you????
I cant remember Where the regs are, but they allowed Waterspray for all cars and said a max of 20 litres for the tank.
