LA Lancer rear brakes
I'm about to do the rear brakes on the Lancer and was planning on GJ Sigma disks and calipers.
However, looking about, most people seem to run scorpion rear brakes. Are they any different to the Sigma brakes? Are they any easier to install?
Any other options will be considered.
BTW, the front has 300mm NSX Rotors and VY twin sopt commodore calipers. It also has a 1inch master cylinder.

Hoonboy,
My Lancer has got Scorpon brakes on the back, but then again that's because it's got a Scorpion diff modified for leaf spring attachment. The handbrake works a lever on the caliper, the discs are not very large and by modifying the stone guard on the caliper and removing the backing plate behind the disc you can fit 13 inch wheels over them which is good for rally. The Scorpion diff and axles (Japanese) are apparently stronger than the Borg Warner stuff found in Sigmas.
Haven't had much to do with Sigma diffs/brakes but I know that the handbrake works as a drum brake inside the disc. The setup is therefore larger than Scorpion and I'm pretty sure you have to run 14 inch wheels to accommodate them.
Wheel size not a drama for you as you'll probably be running 14's or 15's for circuit? I've seen friends' rally cars with Scorpion brakes grafted onto a Lancer diff. I know another bloke who's got Pintara brakes on the back of his Lancer.
I was lucky as I bought my car with the diff already in it. Someone on here must have done a conversion before, just wait for the replies to come in.
Good luck with it, hanging to see your twin cam beastie hit the track. I'll be out at Oran Park for the NSWRRC supersprint this Sunday if you want to say g'day. One of the guys in my club with a yellow Colt rally car used to work at Coltspeed and could answer your questions in a flash. Another member is the apprentice there (red Motec'd Sigma), he might be able to help but the guy with the Colt is probably the best one to ask. They will both be at Oran Park this weekend, kicking my arts as usual.

I'm really speaking out of my arts here, but I believe that people use the Scorpion brakes because they 'match' the Jap style Lancer diff, whereas the Aussie Borg Warner Sigma diff is different.
Some 13s will fit over Sigma discs, but for the most part, just assume you'll need 14s.
The Jap parts are heaps better quality than the BW bits. And you can get better ratios from L300s to fit in the Scorpion housing, unlike the Stigma bits (where you're stuck with 3.9s - if you're lucky enough to find them).

The Scorpion disks are also a really easy fit on to a 1600 or 180B too. And the handbrake setup makes it easy as well ... at least where a mechanical handbrake is compulsory like it is in Vic.

To run the sigma stuff you need to have the sigma backing plate with all the handbrake drum stuff on it, its a) heavy and b) limits airflow so brakes don't cool as well. BUT the Sigma girlock calliper is far superior to the Scorpions solid steel, boat anchor one,
I run Scorpion rotors, with a Sigma front callipers the set up works fine. I've seen the Pintarta set up and its pretty good also.

Andrew, if it wasn't this Sunday I would be there, I live ten minutes from Oran Park but won't be home
I already have an LSD and 4.2:1 gears for the standard diff, so I don't plan on changing the diff. It already has Sigma drums on it, but they aren't the best thing ever made.... It has 15inch wheels, so clearance is not an issue. I needed them for the front brakes and they only just clear.
Daniel, I have a complete set of Sigma brakes here, front and rear, the rear is bulky, but not that heavy. The idea of the front Sigma calipers on the scorpion discs would be good, but then I would need to work out the handbrake.
Gwyn, I saw that one too, now I just need to convince a 5 month pregnant friend to bring it down to Sydney with her in two weeks time:

Fair enough - I drive a 'real' race car (read RALLY) so mine has a hydraulic one working through the same calipers
