Autronic install problem
Autronic install problem
Ok. The system is all wired up but it no go.
Thanx to Ben from EVO in Canberra for doing the wiring, but we cannot get any spark at all.
The only error we get is 33 which relates to no cylinder i/p.
He has used a 124 ignitor instead of a 008. No real problem here, he just used the corresponding pins.
Any thoughts, or suggestions as to why this fault might be occuring.
The engine turns over and all other switches and devices work. Just not the spark. All bits were working when it was removed from the car previous and test ok.

Ray Baker has been playing with 'puters and resolving problems with his Charade, he might be worth a call/PM/carrier pigeon.

Obvious thing to do would be to swap to a 008 ignitor - corresponding pins or not, it does sound like there's a mis-match there which is the cause of your dramas - something like wrong OP signal or overly deaf/overly sensitive input, etc. Bosch would have made (and Autronic would have specified one of) the two different part numbers for a reason!
I've got a couple of spare Bosch ignitors that I think are 008s (ex-VK Commodore). You're welcome to borrow them if you want.
And have you checked the OP from the computer, to the ignitor?

I've no specific Autronic experience, but here's a few wild guesses. The error code sounds like a problem with the cam sensor - no cam sensor, no spark, but you still might get fuel.
Only wiring difference between 124 and 008 is that signal for the 124 goes to pin 5 (pin 6 on 008). Easy to check this is right. Need to ensure good ground on ignition module - the module case itself is the ground. Are you getting 12v to coil and module pin 4?
Mode flags need to be set - mode flag 1 should be set to 1.
Can you put a meter (frequency mode on some multimeters) on the ignition output wire (pink/grn)? Anything?
SMC or SM2?
Have you tried the Autronic forums at http://www.autronic.com/Forum.html

I have tried registering on the forum, and am awaiting a response from the administrator as it is manually set. I did send him off another mail this morning asking when I might get access, and with some of the faults I have.
The 24 has been wired correctly, but from others experience even though you get the pins right some things still do not work. Funky Volvo's and Camira's being the bunnies.
I have read somewhere else, that if the alternator is not wired in, then this can also cause problems. It needs a signal to come from these areas to registor certain pulses. The Alternator is not wired in fully, due to funky cabling on it. The brush wires or something have been pu it in incorrectly, which needs fixing.
The ECU seems to be fine. I can plug my pc in and am able to look and set things up on it. I do need some lessons, or funky picture book to help, but once shown is generally always remembered.
Any help is greatly appreciated, and I will be putting this long weekend to good use...
It is an SMC 3.29 v 1.18

I wouldn't have thought the alternator had much to do with it, unless there just wasn't enough volts to get spark.
First thing I'd check is the basic wiring, then ring someone to ask what that error code means, then check for an ignition output. If all that is sorted, like Spac, I'd suspect the module. Borrow one of Spac's spares.

I know precious little of this "new-fangled" stuff. BUT one thing I constantly hear of problem solving with any elec. Ign. is "ground everything you can, go crazy with earth points....then look for other problems". Good Luck

Looks like it has been answered on PF - basically the 008 has internal dwell, 124 does not, and this is the problem.

There you go. The Motec diagrams for both modules don't specify different dwell settings (internal or external), so that's a bit weird.
Easy fix.

"It's ALIVE.........."
It's alive.........
With the help of Errorl, Russ B, Michael B, Tim B, Paul, Fiona and myself we changed the ignitor, one wire and blocked out a little of the cutter and hey burp burp burp it came to life in a cloud of oil additives, cylinder lubricants and totally too much fuel. Oh and Fro turned up after a while. Thanx for the honking and revving on leaving. We lurved it.
The woman neighbour across the road got the ****s and came out to complain. My husband has this and he can't do this and your making it worse. (for someone who's home all day and watching the antics of everything that goes on why did she not see that the house next door to hers was burgled during the day. I did not see them run to her for help.)
The car ran for no more than ten minutes and you would have thought we were planning a 9/11 exercise.
But much beer was drunk, some base fuel maps installed and the alternator changed and hey it goes. Just about to take it for a spin around the block.
You pissa........

Sorry, the revving, well, that's me.
The honking, well, that's the horn button falling out of the steering wheel as I left...

OK we have found another fault.
The ACA ignitor purchased is limiting the car to 4000 rpm. It is faulty. A call has been made to the distributor and they will take it back to check it. A true Bosch 008 ignitor was taken from another car and tried in it's place. It reved out to 6500 + and all was well.
I am now after a 008 ignitor if anyone has one lying around on a shelf somewhere.
Car will be up and running for Oberon no worries.
