Road Reg Roll Cages

Heya guys
Just thought i would post a bit of a weirdish question given the dedicated nature of most of the cars here. Im currently half way through building my track car down here (currently in Melbourne) and got to the roll cages bit (the car is stripped...). I was intending to go with a 6+ point roll cage with many cross braces and side intrusion until i remembered how much the RTA would try and ream me for this (car will be registered in Canberra).
Given also that it is a long weekend and i cant call any of the cage engineers in Canberra i thoguth i would ask you guys.

Does anyone know what the legal regulations for the RTA cages are?

I have heard both that full cages are legal and illegal, and that 3/4 or 1/2 cages were definately legal (seem to remember this from seeing and building other cars). I am now considering doing a half-half bolt and weld in cage. i.e. weld in the rear half/3quarters of the cage, and then weld the bolt plates to the floor for the front half/quarter to be bolted onto the rear for track events.
Now i am pretty sure that this would pass the RTA (dont have to hack up the dash majorly etc) but would it pass CAMS. I cant check my manual as it has had an unfortunate accident with a cup of coffee earlier this week when studying cage design.

So anyone got any ideas.

I meet someone who had a full cage in a road car, just had removable side intrusion bars. It was tower to tower as well. Fully welded.

All engineered as well. Just had to take it over the pits. Never found out how he went.

Should be able to do it, just need to call one of the approved engineers.

Anyone want to reccomend some engineers to ring on Tuesday. I know of KZ Engineering and thats it.
Should be useful to get my GZE Rolla engineered too.

jem has some part of a clue
takai,

All the RTA are worried about is whether the cage will impede the occupants getting out of the car in an emergency. So intrusion bars are a definate no-no, and anything else that may block any part of the doorway.

I don't think it matters whether you go bolt in or weld. The removable intrusion bars sounds the way to go though.

Paul was that the guy with the blue Escort with the SR20 in it. He had removable side intrusion bars but everything else was welded. The car was very nicely finished, not bad for a 7 year project.
