Dirty Sanchez has some part of a clue
L20 Extractors on L18?

I've got an L20 engine equipped with webber and extractors. I was going to remove the inlet manifold and extractors and fit them to a 200B that has an L18 engine in it. When I ordered the exhaust manifold gaskit I noticed that L18 and L20 exhaust manifold gaskits are different.

In view of this, will the inlet manifold and exhaust manifold off an L18 fit an L20? Also, is it easier to swap the whole inlet manifold, or should I remove the carby and leave the inlet manifolds in place?

Sanchez,

The extractors should fit from L20B to L18, but they will be lower in the engine bay, and hence lower to the ground at the flange. Dunno if this is an issue or not? Given that your going from L20B to L18, there should be more clearnace for the idler arm, but it's probably worth checking when you put it all together to be sure your exhaust isn't going to foul on the steering.

The differences in the gaskets should be simply to do with port size and port shape... but I don't know which head designations came on which motors, so wouldn't be able to offer much help there. And the resource that I normally search is down, so someone else may be able to help you on that one? (Matty, Damo, Bede...)

Inlet and exhaust manifolds should be interchangeable, with the proviso that as above, you check clearance between idler arm/drag link and the exhaust.

You should find that the extractors will bolt up to any 4 Cylinder L-Series Head, however the L20B is a taller engine than the L18, so you may find that the extractors (when fitted to the L18 ) hit the engine mount or hang too low, etc...

The variations in the manifold gaskets are for the different port sizes and shapes on the different L-Series Heads. If the head on your L18 and manifold from the L20B have bigger ports than the gasket, just make the port holes bigger in the gasket - be careful not to damage the gasket when doing this. Otherwise try and get a gasket for that particular head (A87, U67, W53, etc).

Damn you fro.
