Copper coating on Brake lines
I bought a couple of metres of brake line for the new beastie last Friday (big deal you might say), however, this line has a copper coating instead of the galvinised coating found on some of the older steel brake lines.
The fellow from the brake shop told me that the factory that makes the line had OH&S problems with the previous coating (something to do with the process I think) and that all new steel lines would now be copper coated.
Call me a pessimist, but I can see some big problems with rego/scrutineering if people start thinking that we are using copper tubing for brakes.
Of course the easy way to prove that they are steel is to use a magnet. Failing that, speaking really slowly and using monosyllabic words with the nice rego person/scrute may help.
Cheers
Jason

Umm, are you sure that you haven't been sold Copper? I know it's a bit of silly question, but the cynic in my thinks it all sounds all to coincidental to be an "OH&S issue". Perhaps you should run a magnet over it just to be sure.
If it is mild steel bundy tube, I guess you could always paint them black, blue, nipple pink, or any other colour that appeals to you. Not too sure as to how you might actually get the coating off however.
Too bad you can't use seamless copper on rally cars though. It's sooooo easy to work with. It is perfectly legal to use on road cars though... Check my topic below for some of the ins and outs...
Seamless copper brake tube? (on road car)

The fumes from gal when you're welding are poisonous, so the fumes over a vat of molten gal (or however they apply molten gal) would definately be an OH&S issue.....

I find my brakes excellent to use to avoid both major accidents and expensive repair bills (....well that and not competing ) Each to his own but having actually had cracks and brake fluid loss at the end crimpings in copper lines (on road car) Im really happy to adhere to the steel brake lines only....I fully agree copper is nice to work with....BUT!!!

There's nothing hard about using bundy tube, so long as you stick your short arms into your deep pockets and buy the proper $60 tool to bend it without crimping. It could always be hired out at $5 a time to recover costs.
The problems with handling a long length of tube are the same whether it be copper or steel.

I've bent lots of steel tubing by hand and not had a drama since the first go - you only have to f$%k it up once or twice to learn what not to do.

Do you mean like making the perfect length tube that fits all bends with correct bend radius and a perfect flare, then realise you didn'f fit the nut!
