Glass for the small rear door on a GU Patrol...... $1100.

The thing is only about 30cm x 40cm, and only has demister strips. Nothing special there.

Z69

Had a look at the start of this thread, yes Peugeot 504 filter but the quality Purflux filters (much better than the now South African made Ryco) are about $15 from the independent Peugeot spare parts centres.

Form yourself a 2 bob auto company and with your ABN everything is Trade priced. Also in relation to Repco the biggest advantage is that usually they have what you need or if they don't have it in stock can get it. I run a P76 and if you want a part nightmare that was one until other cars started using parts from the P. We started with Leyland prices a bit dearer than Holden but still reasonable, then it all went to Unipart, about the same as Holden, then JRA suddenly we started paying Jag prices, then Land Rover and we started paying Range Rover prices, a bit less than Jag but still overpriced. We use a Ryco Z89 on V8 P it retails when you can get them at about $40. and has done so for ten years.

Repco is a great company and supports Rallying through sponsorship of the ARC.

Priced up some CV joints a few years ago for the 2002 from BMW Australia ... $840 each Eventually found them on US ebay new old stock for around $20 USD each.

I get most of my parts for the US now as they usual come in at about 1/5 to 1/2 of the BMW Australia who can be highly skilled in the proctological extraction of $$$$. From the US is usually quicker too.

Trying to source a new RX2 gear box mount from Bursons. After going through their whole cattledog, couldn't turn up anything to suit the (hybrid) design in my car (TQX box using a custom Xmember).

I thought I'd bite the bullet and buy a standard RX2 mount and modify it to suit (a-la the badly butchered one that came out of the car).

"Nah mate, no listing for anything that old in here. You probably have to go genuine" (gulp)

Drops in to see Mazda, pull up the old Microfiche...."Yep, we got int in our warehouse.....$40"

Bargain!!

Even better - it's a "universal" multifit design, that happens to match the bolt patterns in my car perfectly!! Woohoo!!

So, not all spare parts quests end up in tears

Todays most rediculously expensive part

Part in question Lexus right angle headlight globe $450.00 each about 4years ago.
Best part having worked with an ex lexus mechanic knew cost of said item apon visiting Sydney Motor show that year stood at back of crowd of about 50 plus victims taking in Lexus sales spiel.
Fatal mistake number 1 Lexus staff asked if anyone had any questions,I then asked WHY do you want $450.00 for a headlight globe rather loudly, general stares and glares from audience who thought who's this noisy bastard.Lexus Staff then made fatal mistake number 2,and asked me to repeat question, when all present heard the question everyone turned to hear what the answer was from motor show staff,. re this rather interesting question.
The answer was ALL the staff walked off the stand in the middle of the motor show, question unanswered.
Result Coxy 1 Lexus 0
BMW by the way probably sold 20 more cars that year

Got quoted $400 for strut tops on my, now scrapped, G102 from Toyota. Repco quoted $38 for each one, I was hoping the genuine parts included more bits. Had the sliding door lock barrel replaced in my '06 Hiace work van, not covered by warranty. $90 for the barrel, plus labour to fit it the first time, after waiting a month for the damm thing to arrive, plus $75 for for it to be recoded to the rest of the locks because Toyota doesn't supply lock barrels coded to the VIN. I was not happy, van out of action for 2 days which meant 2 days use of a rental. Fleet manager not happy as it was the 3rd van with the problem. Bean counters not happy because we have just over 2000 of these things in APAC. And now the other 2 vans here are having the same problem, and mine is starting to act up again.

Headlight for KJ2, mine, Verada-$800 each for the 1 piece plastic unit.
The 2 piece glass is $700 and requires the $60 indicator and is NLA.
Both designs suck.
Standard Magna headlight-$350, still needs the indicator, and harness mods to work.

Speedo cable rx2 (to suit twin dizzy chassis).
Mazda - $35. Sweet, got the 3rd last one in stock and discover it is the wrong one. Right one is 'nil stock'.
Ask on AusRotary get offered 2nd hand one by a 'specialist wrecker' for something like $220+ and he was unhappy that I didn't sound appreciative.
Get skanky but working freebie from Spac. Thanks.
When it breaks I discover Premier instruments in Dickson will make a new one from scratch with change from $100.
