Brantz Laser 3 opinions

Hi

I am considering purchasing a Laser 3 and would like any feed back on any experiences of them. I currently have the old Brantz 2 but it doesn't have reverse which is a bit of a pain at times when I am setting up road books for rallies or touring events. But as I was into upgrading it looked like it had a few extra features as well. I like being able to calibrate the Brantz on the dials ie to cope for changes in stage, which is why I slightly prefer the Brantz over the terratrip although I always need to put a cover around the Brantz so the nav can read it during the day and it doesn't distract the driver at night.

I guess any discussion here on the tripmeters might change my mind although from having read past forums (before Bede comes up with search is your friend) I still haven't read anything bad about it.

Dave

I've got a Brantz International 2 or some-such.
Works fine. It can temporarily lose power mid-stage (thanks to dodgy Jamie-spec wiring...) and just resets itself and keeps on counting, unlike TTs that sometimes lose their calibration.

You obviously already know about the Bratz + direct sunlight issues, so I can't think of any reaso why not to use it...

Well I bought one form the UK which should hopefully arrive before bega. The only things are the laser 3 doesn't have a remote zero unit by can be wired up for one but I heard there were issues with reverse once it had one, but the guy wasn't real sure what the issues were. Will find out soon anyway. There is now one on ebay for $450- + $15 postage. Bloody cheap for Aus as every where I rang they wanted about $900- for it. I guess I should tell people through the for sales section but I can't get access to ebay from work computers, they think we would waist too much time there (lucky they haven't picked up on this yet) so can't post the link.

Well, for future information if someone uses search to find out about a Laser 3 I recieved it in the post at about 9am and by about 11am we were on the road with it basically calibrated. Did a quick calibration using the speedo in the car to compare to the speedo on the brantz untill it was reading about right which got us close. Then used the 10km signs as we were travelling and confirmed it.
First impresions have been very good. Using it to set roads up for the Ulladulla rally, it was easy to use after familiarising myself with the buttons (accidentally press - instead of hold at one point). Lots of good features such as hold (keeps counting) freeze top or freeze bottom, max speeds recorded (showed 250 from the excel - happened while playing with the calibration) and has a clock, stop watch etc, can monitor fuel and can be used with wireless remotes that can display everything again that the nav has.
Basically first use seems really good. Still have to set up a remote zero unit but that should not be too hard.
I don't like the case construction where the wires go in as is very cheap so I will have to modify it to keep out the dust better.
Will edit with any other anomalies I find in the future for reference for others.

Cheers
