Fixing damaged alloy wheels
I asked many months ago if any one has any wheels like the one I damaged at Mini Dulla, but I haven't been able to find any. So my next option is to see if I can get it fixed.
My question is can a wheel have sections replaced? or can half the wheel be cut and the damaged bit replaced with another half of a wheel? The wheel is alloy and I have been told that people have got wheels widened to make insane size wheels?

Stewy,
When I got my current car a few of the Speedline mags had small cracks in them. I took them along to Quickfit in Queanbeyan where they seem to fix mags (and they have a bucketload to fix out back). However, at least in the Speedline case, they just kept blowing holes with the welder through the mag and couldn't repair them in the end.
I should have mentioned that to fix the crack, they cut out a triangular section first around the crack - hence answering your bit about the replacing sections...
I reckon your one is absolutely rooted. Stick a pane of glass on it and make a coffee table out of it Should go nicely in front of the couch made up out of VB slab cardboard...

I reckon you could fix that, if you got another 14" alloy with a similar profile and a lathe and a TIG and made two into one.
It's definitely possible - two big questions are:
1. Whether the alloy is easlit weldable. Like Mawk said, too much magnesium and you're f$%ked;
2. Whether it's financially worthwhile.

First question Spac..........Not sure and will have to find out?
Second is........I was thinking the same thing, but they look great on the car, the best I have had, and thy seem to be a very short run made by a place in South Aus that closed up many years ago.
So my only option is to fix or store in the shed until one day I mix and match to make a set of wheels for a rally.

Nah, they're not Starion wheels. Similar, but not the same - Carl started a thread just after he damaged it and we worked out that they weren't Starion ones then.

Cost is the killer. For your wheel repair I would say you are looking at $150 easy if you want it done. You then have to determine will it still be usable as a good wheel.
I have had a couple done, and one is ok, the other needs a metric butload of weights to see it rotate at least in a round way. It now resides as my spare.
Could you get 2 or 4 new wheels for the expected cost of one repair ?????

Yeah buying other wheels is no problem and I already have enough spares, its just that I realy like the wheels and they seem to be the only 4 ever made, I know thats not true but it seems like it.
I think they will be just a lost cause
