Sorry Dave, no offence taken I was really just making the point that our device is actually a simplification of the process in that it combines a stop watch, pace note book, tripmeter and map into one.

The format of the notes is very much up to the user. You can do it line by line or you can combine several notes together into one block. One of the changes we made in v1.1 was to allow for a larger information block. you can also see the next 4 instructions and the last instruction at any time.

I agree with your assessment of narratives but would add that crucial to any good narrative is a sense of timing in the delivery, which is where RallyNav comes in.

Thanks for the offer of the pacenotes but I can report that recently one of our users was able to purchase some pacenotes for Targa West in Microsoft Word format. we were then able to reformat them into RallyNav format and load them into our software and they could then measure out the key points for the calls by simply driving the course and pressing the "Record" button.

The best thing about our software is that you can set it up to function and write the notes in what ever manner that suits you.

Of course Macks you don't HAVE to only do one pass on the recce, I'm just saying that using RallyNav the recce process will be greatly assisted.

Being able to braodcast ones position is a fairly easy add on we do have a set up where the position of all cars can be broadcast to a central point every 30seconds or so and then plotted on an electronic map for event organisers. this can be fed back down to a real time display. The only tricky bit is the comms link.

One of the advantages of computer software is that although today RallyNav may not be a step forward for pace notes despite being able to do the job of a tripmeter, stop watch, road book and map, and is able to digitally measure out a course and compile the road book, grade corners and compute pace notes, navigate a stage, record all split times and calculate real time average speeds, maximum speed, distance traveled, distance to go, estimated stage time and whether you're ahead or behind on the required time plus a few other things ............ it can be easily adapted or expanded to include those things that WILL make it a great leap forward.

Your thoughts on what we can add are greatly appreciated and the main reason e keep such a close eye on this and other forums.

Magpie, I realise you don't only have to do 1 pass but i got the impression you were saying that was an advantage when in reality, it's not really.

Looking at the advantages that you have listed in he above post i cant see many that are a real advantage for the average special stage rally. It seems like it would be much better for people doing Dakar style events as you are providing the information they want with one device not 3 or 4. Most of the functions your system does provide you can get with a simple terratrip, just not all at once. The average co-driver uses total & intermediate distances on their tt, stage times on watch (which they will all wear anyway as you dont wanna carry a computer in a service park) road books between stages pacenotes on and not really much more, if anything at all.

However, after saying that, i will show my co-driver & co-course writer the website & info as i would love to trial it for writing a course.

Perhaps the best way to get a further look at our software is to go to the downloads page of the website.

Here : RallyNav

This is a trial version that will work reasonably well with any Windows PC/ GPS combination. It also will run in a "demo"mode where you can use an on screen accelerator to simulate being in a car.

If you like what you see or have any questions please contact us via support@magpiemotorsports.com

You may also wish to consider our new rental program so you can trial our hardware as well.

We are offering special rates to CAMS Rally License Holders and event organisers
