Did anyone else register for this in 2005? I'm wondering who my competition is in the ACT.

Maybe its just the cynic in me,
1.Buy Kumho tyres for 2005 at small discount.display sticker
2. be fastest competitor
3.Get 2006 tyres at 50% off RETAIL
cost to expectant competitor heaps
cost to Kumho SFA

I am not sure how much profit you think are on rally tyres but I can tell you there is SFA. 50% of RRP is less than the cost price of the tyres but lets not also forget the tme and cost of providing at event support or fitting of the tyres.
The challenge was also aimed at the midde or lower part of the field many of whom do not purchase many tyres across the rally year.
You say the cost to the competitor was heaps. Dont these competitors purchase tyres anyway, so the way I see it there is a chance to win something for only purchasing what they would be anyway. That is unless they are given tyres for free.

Yeah sorry my mistake John, Kuhmo is listed in my Top Ten philanthropic organizations World Wide book. I should have checked in it first. Before cynically assumeing it was an attempt to gain market share by dangling a revenue neutral leader.

So does anyone know how many ACT registered Rally Challengers there are?
John can you help us out? Here's your chance to plug the challenge, and tell me who I'm up against.

The cynic in me suggests that the answer is "one", based on the previous avoidance of the question...

Other than Tony Sullens and Gig Boy, who else is running Kumho's and what sort of results are they getting. I think Gwyn Mullholland runs them on his Commode.
I would look at running them if they were available to me for the same price as the Dunlops and there was feedback available from similar level competitors. But, the Kumho's are $50 dearer in the 15 inch size and I have heard nothing about them, other than they make a good F3 tyre and Tony raves about them.

I thought Sullens was on something else this year? Russ Winks and Sophia both run Kumhos AFAIK.

Tony Sullens is definately running Kumho's this year.
Steve and I are also running them and haven't been able to fault them.
Steve has been playing with combinations this year but believes that the car steers better with R700's on the front and R800's on the back.
Steve ran brand new tyres on the rear at Bathurst and ran the same rears at Bega and had no (lack of) traction issues.
I believe that if more people start running Kumho's they may get a little cheaper

Craig's set about 5 top 5 ARC times on R800's and a few top 10 on R700's... we were first to go on them.
Really, it don't matter with tyres. They are all good products. Drivers drive differently and cars have different settings.... you just got to make the tyres work for you and be comfortable with the "man" your dealing with.
I'm assuming Tony is still on Kumho- unless things have changed. He was definately on them at the start of the year.

Smee is correct, I am running Kuhmo Tyres.
I have run them now for nearly two years and can give them nothing but praise.
The Mazda ran R700's and handled extremely well on them with no problems.
I purchased the Commodore and decided to run R800's after cold canvassing most of the other tyre suppliers and running the car on the tyres that were on it at the Mini Natcap.
One of the main reasons behind this decision was that to this day I am yet to have a tyre failure unlike some of my fellow competitors running one of the better known brands.
On my pricing exercise they were neither the dearest or the cheapest.
At Bega despite my car being a six cylinder the only Commodore in front of me at the finish of the short event was Russell who coincidentally also runs Kuhmo.

Ah I don't think anybody said Kumho tyres were no good! just that their Challenge may not be as generous as they would like us to believe
