Akademos footage

Hey guys,
here's some footage from the Akademos rally held on the weekend. We didn't finish (had a small off on stage 3).

Cheers,
Brenton

Nav : "Stay in 50! Stay in!"

Driver : "Oh, you mean that kind of stay in..."

At least you were having a go, and went in backwards. These AWD cars aren't as tough as they ought to be - should have been able to drive straight out from there, no?

Mmm, it was on quite an angle and couldn't quite get out. Ah well, looking forward to ROM now! Just gotta focus a bit better.

THe off

It looks like you might have lost a bit of concentration after seeing the car off despite some good co-driver advice. Pity - looked like a good run.

You obviously knew he was out of sync. From when you had to repeat the call, and then tell him to concentrate and your voice was giving more emphasis to important calls like "keep in".

You did all you could do. I hate that feeling of knowing my driver isn't focused enough.

I did hear that a sharp pencil to the leg gets their attention.

Try to develop a key word with your co-driver. Something that will hopefully trigger you to focus. It needs to be something that the co-driver doesn't normally say, but can pull out of their bag of tricks if they feel you are threatening to stick it off. I have found this to work well.

Rhys/Brenton

I had an experience at the Bay a few years ago with Dave Thompson that will stay will me which sort of crystallises the problems that can happen with concentration whenn you see someone off. Coming down a hill in 3rd gear I see a fellow Gemini competitor on his roof. I back off momentarily and see they are OK and I'm back on the gas I then see the next corner and probably a sec later Dave says "car's off" and I think he can see another car off round the next corner so I lift off dramatically and we go round and go nose first into the inside of the corner. Only minor damage and we keep going. But it showed me how disciplined you have to be with the communication.

My mistake was that I didn;t tell Dave I had clocked it. What I do now when a car is off I say "Seen it . I'm back on the gas" so Bek knows I'm committed to the next corner.

BiGs has some part of a clue
I love how the nav knew the off car would effect the driving, almost like he could see the crash happening. "focus now mate, trust me focus"
